Take me Home continued...
Click to set custom HTMLLike Gran in Take me Home, I bought my dad a Scottish title as a fun way to celebrate our Scottish heritage. Becoming a Laird gave him a huge chuckle. But then I decided I wanted my own title so I bought myself one as well ...you may call me Lady Karly of Glencoe...
However behind the fun, is a really worthwhile organisation raising money to protect and replant Scotland's forests and protect their wildlife.

Outlander Obsession
Outlander
My obsession with Outlander, as with a lot of people who visit Scotland, started over twenty years ago with the first book in the series, titled here as Cross Stitch. Outlander has had an astonishing impact on the tourism trade in Scotland- with many of the tourists being avid fans of the both the tv series and the books. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to go on an Outlander tour while we were there, and it was amazing visiting the sites the tv series filmed in. Of course, beyond t...

Take Me Home
''In 2019 I fulfilled a life long dream of visiting Scotland.
I used the trip for both family research and background for a book I wanted to write. That book became Take Me Home, and I cant tell you what a thrill it was to write into my book, some of the places we visited.
In the following posts, I wanted to share with you the places and experiences behind this book and I urge you, if you've ever had a dream about visiting Scotland, once covid restrictions allow it, follow that dream. You won't ...

Saving the wild horses; Guy Fawkes Heritage Horse Association
If you've read the previous blog post about my upcoming May release, If Wishes Were Horses, you'll have heard about some of the inspiration behind the book, already. The Guy Fawkes Heritage Horse Association features in the story and it was my way of helping to raise awareness for the wonderful work they do and for the education and promotion of Heritage horses and how fragile their existence is becoming.
Without groups like these, our wild horses who have a history dating back to our first s...

The back story to my boy, Romani
If you've been following me on social media (and haven't gotten sick of all my photos yet) you'd no doubt heard of my recent addition to my horsey family of two Guy Fawkes heritage horses sometimes known as Brumbies.
When it came to naming them I wanted something that reflected their heritage. Its harder than it sounds, particularly when you're registering them, something I hadn't had any previous experience with, and realise you cant have two horses in the stud books with the same name! So o...

This is my brand new release coming out in May and I'm very excited. So much of this story evolved into something far deeper and more emotional than I'd initially anticipated.
The idea for this story started while I was attending our local ANZAC day march in Bowraville last year.
An image of a young man dressed in the Light Horse uniform, reenacting a trooper from WW1 walked out of the our old pub, that had been there during those first heady days of the war being announced. It was an imag...

Launching Burnt
For the launch of Burnt, I wanted to do something special. This book is set in my home town and as such, I wanted to do something to give back to the area I live in and love so much.
The Macksville hospital which services the whole of The Nambucca Valley, has been a huge part of my life. Two of my four children were born there. Both my Grandparents, sadly passed away inside those familiar walls, and growing up, I had my own bumps and scrapes taken cared of with the odd visit to the ER.
Our small country hospitals are VITAL to our communities, no matter where in Australia you live. And they continue to be threatened through government cuts year after year. They're usually the last ones to receive funding and its only through dedicated staff that they are managed to run so smoothly and reliably.
Since Bec, my character in Burnt, works as a nurse in Macksville hospital, I decided to incorporate a fund raiser event at my book launch and try and raise some money. The United Hospital Auxiliary (UHA) committee work hard to raise money through various ways, one of the biggest being the hospital cafe run by volunteers and members of the committee. The profits of this cafe go directly towards items on the hospital wish list. At the moment they're saving for two special recliner chairs; one for the day surgery wing to help patients recover from their day surgery in a little more comfort, and one for the maternity ward.
Much to my relief, locals supported this fundraiser with their usual generosity and on the day we managed to raise over $500. It was an awesome effort and I can't thank everyone enough for all their help and support.
I love this town, and I'm so happy that I could show case it a little by making it the setting for this story.
