A Birthday, a Book and the soft Return of Spring

🌸 April always feels like a quiet beginning.

The kind that arrives on soft petals and longer light… where something inside you gently stirs and says, it’s time again.

This month, I’m celebrating my birthday—and counting not years, but blessings.

A slower rhythm.
A softer gratitude.
A life that feels full in the smallest, loveliest ways.

If you’d like to sit with me a little longer…

When Stories Are Shared

Writing is often described as solitary work.
And it is.

There are long stretches of quiet — afternoons spent with only the hum of a laptop, evenings shaped by a single sentence that refuses to behave. Stories are born in solitude. They require it.

But they are not meant to remain there.

Over the years, I’ve been thinking more about the ways stories grow when we invite others into them — to share both the weight and the wonder of bringing them into the world.

I’ve shared a reflection on creative collaboration, storytelling companionship, and the spirit behind the Velvet Teacup Society on my March blog.

Stories begin in solitude.
But they come alive in community.

Into the Firelight: The Story Behind Bound by Blood

Some stories gather slowly.

Others arrive all at once — fully formed, insistent, and impossible to ignore.

Bound by Blood, the first book in my new Hallow Rising series, was born from campfire tales, Appalachian shadow, and the ancient pull of stories meant to be spoken aloud in the dark.

This is not a gentle fantasy.

It is folkloric.
Myth-rooted.
Firelit.

If you love:
• mountain legends
• dragons shaped by creation magic
• shadowed forests and hidden paths
• slow-burning, atmospheric storytelling

— then this world may be calling to you.

I’ve shared more about the creation myth, the folklore inspirations, and the firelit heart of the story on my February blog.

Stories like this are meant to linger.

A Quiet Doorway into the New Year

January doesn’t always ask us to begin loudly.
Sometimes it invites us to pause at the threshold and listen.

I’ve shared a quiet reflection for the opening of the year — about intention, softness, and choosing what we carry forward.
