"We're All Stories In the End. Just Make It A Good One."
- The Doctor
B. M. "Meg" Polier started writing soon after she learned how to read at the age of 4. Once she realized that the amazing stories that she was reading could also be created by stringing her own series of words together, she never stopped creating. In high school, her stories began to coalesce into publish worthy stories until her first complete work, Call of Descent, was brought into existence. After feeling the elation of completion, the sudden realization that her story was complete left her wondering if she had any more stories to tell. It wasn't long before she realized that her mind was teaming with stories and she started working on the sequel to Call of Descent, Spir

A lot of my books are written out of the idea of wanting to be in them. Reniko is who I want to be, Riumi is who I am most like, and Viola is what I wish to become if I stopped writing.

I guess I would like to be in the world of Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. I would be like the shut in aunt, a house full of books from top to bottom, I would be like the father who can fix even the most damaged books and who can read things into and out of books.(less)

I believe that sometimes there is a different story that wants to be written that gets in the way of the one you feel that you should be writing. In that case, stop trying to write the story you think you are supposed to be writing and just start writing the one that wants your attention. Once that one has been addressed, the other one will come back to you.(less)

B.M. M. Polier is on page 313 of 541 of Mistborn: Despite this book have a strong female lead, her first interaction with another female isn't until 300 pages into the book, and I'mhesitant to say that conversation passed the Bechdel test as the main subject of the conversation was about a man, but appearances of one of the women was discussed so, maybe it passes. So far this book would be better if it has been written by a women seeing as he wanted a female lead.

“I love rain. I love the sound of it falling on an umbrella, each drop that hits the cloth a soothing sound. Everything is so fresh and clean. It always feels as if each drop is helping to wash away the hurt, the pain, the dirt that life leaves behind. As if the mere act of it falling can give life a rebirth, a second chance.”

“The story itself, the true story, is the one that the audience members create in their minds, guided and shaped by my text, but then transformed, elucidated, expanded, edited, and clarified by their own experience, their own desires, their own hopes and fears.”

B.M. M. Polier I'm switching to thestorygraph.com for my book tracking, as it is independently owned and not owned by Amazon. Goodreads is clunky and hasn't changed since its inception. I'm tired of corporate-owned awful, I'm going to a better platform.

B.M. M. Polier So for my goodreads challenge next year I decided on quality not quantity. Instead of 50+ books I am going for 10. Two of those 10 are going to be 1) The Holy Bible which I want to read cover to cover again this time in a year, and 2) The Tale of Genji which is bible sized itself and I have only read to page 800 of the 3000? pages in it. So those are the two books I am going to finish next year. 8 others for fillers when I can't read the other to any more.

I agree. The series definitely gets better as it progresses, but Robin Hobb has a penchant for making her characters suffer miserably. That never changes in any of her books.

Laura So I finally read Royal Assassin. For some strange reason I enjoyed it way more then the first one. I think it may have been because the first one was so depressing, always something bad happening to Fitz. He still got a full share of nastiness in this book, but there was also good things happening to him, not much, but I guess enough.

B.M. M. Polier Now that I think about it, I didn't know about it either. I didn't know it was there until the second book had hit first printing. I think it is actually called the TAWNY MAN trilogy and not the Golden Fool. Either way, I'm sure you will find it. This all is making me want to read both series over again, it has been such a long time. If only I didn't have 50+ books waiting on my TO BE READ shelf...

Robin Hobb's Assassin series is one of my favorites. Most people find it a little slow, but I just loved it and devoured it. Don't forget to read the Golden Fool Series afterwards as it completes the story and enjoy!

message 1: by Laura

Laura I finished Shadows Edge, I enjoyed it more then the first, but it had more to do with the story elements then anything else. The problems with the first book are still strong in the second, the writing is slightly better, and I didn't find this one as confusing in areas like the first one. If I hadn't received the box set of this series I probably wouldn't have bothered. I'll race through the third hopefully (sometimes it's a bad thing to be a completion-ist) and then start Robin Hobb's Assassin series. :D
