Another year another book!
Well, this has been a long time coming! First up, I have a new book!
Pretty cool cover, huh? Good news is, you can buy this beautiful cover right here:
http://getbook.at/HOPEEngine
And the book inside? More good news, there are 10 illustrations for you to look at! Pretty great, huh?
What's that? The story? Oh... I mean, it's... divisive, so far. I've had everything from 5 stars to 1 stars, from lovers of the genre to haters of the genre.
But I'm the author, so I can tell you if it's good or not, right? Ha! Oh sure, I can give you some false bravado and tell you it's the best LitRPG and anyone that doesn't think so just doesn't GET IT. But I'm not much for that.
But what CAN I say? Easy:
My next book will be a masterpiece.

Alive But Not Living
Hello to the 2 people that will read this post!
I have NOT been using Goodreads at all recently, but I assure you I am not dead. I actually haven't been using anything social media wise. I haven't been updating FB, Twitter, or even my website.
What I HAVE been doing is writing!
Let's see... so, I've published a 3rd novel under a pen name, I've finished a fourth that I have decided I will sell to an agent instead of self publishing, and I am currently writing a fifth which I am publishing as I write (I think that makes it a web serial, but I'm hazy on these things).
For anyone that wants the free web serial, it's a LitRPG (think Ready Player One, kind of):
https://royalroadl.com/fiction/13451/...
And for anyone REALLY bored, here's some of my random writings that I gave up on half way through (for now, never say never!):
http://www.lynchwriting.com/more-writ...
And finally, I've also started applying for freelance writing jobs within gaming companies. Fingers crossed there too!

What am I doing right now, anyway?
What am I doing right now, anyway?
The ever present question that I can keep coming back to because of my complete inability to update ANY of my social media with any sort of frequency.
April… was a wash. I literally didn’t write AT ALL. Which is the longest period of non-writing I’ve had since I began a short story fan fiction over two years ago (these will never be seen. The world has enough Warcraft fan fiction as it stands!). And I was busy with training for work, then being sick, then I had a long weekend in Austria which led to second degree sunburn etc. etc. you know how it goes.
But now, I’m back on it! The writing is going strong, and I’m enjoying it again. I’ll admit that the break was much needed and not simply a requirement of life. My interest in what I’m currently writing had waned, and it felt like everything was just taking too long. But I came back to it, reread a few chapters and found that I quite liked what I had on the page. That is actually the first time I’ve read my own work, before publishing it, and genuinely enjoyed what I read. I’ll write more about the weirdness of enjoying and despising one’s own writing in another post. For now, just know that my spy/thriller/comedy is coming along nicely, and I’ve got high hopes!

Inkitt and competitions
It's been 2 months since I last posted anything, and that's definitely something that needs to be fixed!
The long story short is, I'm still writing. It's going well. It's going REALLY well. And I'm sending my book out to reviewers and it's getting some great reviews! I'm going to make a longer post soon looking at how these reviews have affected my sales, but I'm waiting till the end of the month for that.
In the meantime, I'm looking at other ways to get my book out there, and there's something I haven't tried yet. Awards and competitions. I've started poking around and I'll be entering as much as I can soon enough.
But for right now, I've entered one, and it means there are 100 free e-copies of my book, Sanctuary's Fiend available from Inkitt. A brilliant chance to check my book out and, and if you're so inclined, leave an honest review!

Book number 2: Sanctuary's Fiend
Book number 2 is officially out! ebook, paperback, whatever floats your boat.
I learned so much writing Demi Heroes, and it really shines through in Sanctuary's Fiend. The plot is tighter, the main character actually has a personality this time, and the writing is just all around better.
Anyone that has any inkling towards the urban fantasy young adult genre will love this book.
Add it to your TBR's here:
Or throw caution to the wind, and YOLO the purchase from Amazon right here:
https://www.amazon.com/Sanctuarys-Fie...
And if you love it as much as I do, tell literally everyone in the world!

Mark Lawerence's SPFBO 2016
Along with the whole “I’m active but not so active that I’m updating my social media” schtick I have going, I have entered Mark Lawrence Self-Published Fantasy Blog-Off 2016
300 books enter, 1 book gets crowned the champion. That’s it, there’s no further prize. But of course as an independent author, the hardest thing to achieve is publicity, and this gives exactly that.
Demi Heroes has been randomly dealt to Ria from Bibliotropic who seems to be doing a pretty damn good job considering she’s only a single reviewer! Of course all of the blogs that have received books to review are allowed to decide how to go about eliminating books to get to the final one that they will put forwards into the top 10, but I’ve seen that some of the blogs that are running in teams of reviewers are doing less in-depth coverage of their books. So a big thank you to Ria!
And, extremely excitingly for me, she’s narrowed her 30 books down to the top 9 that she’s going to do a full review for, and Demi Heroes has intrigued her enough that I’m getting the full review treatment!
Of course, that review could be “DNF after 4th chapter. Huge mistake”, but let’s imagine that I started as I meant to continue, with intrigue, guile, and readability.
This will also be the very first review from a book blogger that I will receive, so that also makes me very excited. An in-depth review of my own book. Not at all scary!
I’ll be sure to post a link to her review when it’s up.

Mandatory Update
This is my first post on Goodreads as an author. Momentous stuff, no doubt, but I'm not really very active on social media in general. I started out using “I don’t have a book so why should anyone listen to me” as an excuse, but then I realised that actually, I kind of prefer to just write books than have to do this whole marketing side of the “business”.
First order of business: I released Demi Heroes! That actually happened three months ago, but that’s how bad I’ve been at updating. I then also released it in paperback by using Createspace. I’m very happy with the end result!
Maybe buy it here for America?
Or here for the UK

The first draft of my second book is DONE and I’m trying to track down a suitable artist. I loved the artwork for Demi Heroes, but I just didn’t think it would be suitable for a YA Urban Fantasy. I’m hoping to do something a little bit… out of genre for my cover, but that depends on the artist I can find. I’ve got one in mind, but they seem to be rather busy. However I was just so enamoured with the artwork she did for me (below) when I met her at Comic Con that I felt inspired.

I’m hoping to get this second book released by the end of August at the latest, but that is still artist dependent.
And that’s it for this quick update! I’m going to try and be more active on here, but I assure you that my inactivity here, does not mean I am not writing!
