Adam Short's Blog

Shameless promotion of self and others

This is my first post on my shiny new Goodreads blog, how's that for fabulous, eh?

If you don't already know me, I'm Adam Short and I'm a writer, software developer, husband, stepfather, grandad, geek, spectacle wearer, rabbit feeder and general normal bloke. I write mainly children's fiction a la Sir Parsley and the Dragon and Other Stories, but I've been known to write more general short fiction, in the realms of sci-fi, fantasy and horror, which brings me to the point of these ramblings.

Every so often, when people know you write stuff, they'll say things like "Oi! Do you fancy doing this?", and if you're anything like me you'll say something like "In for a penny..." and away you go. Such was my introduction to the work of Mr Andy Bigwood, and specifically his latest project "The Sixty", which is a lovely collection of whopping great chunks of sci-fi and fantasy artwork (all gobsmackingly good) combined with wordy bits supplied by lots of clever people, some of whom make stuff up for a living!

I was asked to pick a piece of Andy's artwork and write a story around it, and the result was a piece called A Rough Experiment. It's nestled in the pages of a nice big glossy book, with stories by Andy Bigwood himself, Gareth L. Powell, Gaz Hunter and many others.

I know I'm terribly biased (and here comes the shameless part of the post), but I think it's fab, and consequently I believe your lives will be enriched by buying it and having a good rummage through all the artwork and stories. There are some cracking examples of both.

It's available now at Amazon, and probably other places too, so buy it and dig in.
