Hello 2021
Okay, so it's a couple weeks into 2021 but hey, who's counting? 2020 was a difficult year for writing, not to mention everything else happening in the world. I'm not sure 2021 is going to be a 100% better but let's be optimistic!
This year I'm looking forward to completing Lexi Graves #15, and then continuing on to write more of the Calendar standalone mystery novels. It's particularly fun writing standalone/companion novels because I can take different characters from Calendar town and weave a web that connects them all. I'll also be rebranding them with new titles - more details to come. I wish I could write faster as I have a whole list of stories I'd like to tackle but I have to accept the realities of life currently. Homeschool and concentrating on writing novels don't go hand-in-hand so I'm doing what I can, when I can. Unfortunately, that means producing slightly less so please bear with me if you're waiting for your favorite characters.
Asides from that, I'm using some time to update this website, update paperback interiors, and make sure all paperbacks are available alongside the ebooks. Don't we all have a long admin list that seems to take forever to tackle? I so look forward to getting to the end of it.
Wishing you a happy 2021!

Mission: Possible out November 26th
I'm thrilled to tell you Mission: Possible is due out November 26th, and it's already number 10 in Amazon's cozy mystery chart!
After PI Lexi Graves is approached to investigate an accident which has left the homeowner, Sophie Takahashi, in a coma, she quickly realizes the case isn't quite as clear cut as first appears. For one thing, Sophie's injuries are inconsistent with her supposed accident. Secondly, her husband is suspicious she might not be who she says she is. Who really is the woman in the hospital bed? And why would someone want to hurt her?
As Lexi ponders the merits of the case, she's caught up in a bank robbery. The heist crew are clearly professional, yet not a penny is stolen. With the police and FBI sniffing around, the nervous bank manager needs their help. There's only one small problem: he won't tell them what's missing.
Tracking down a mystery attacker, confirming an identity, and solving a bank robbery? Just a regular week for Montgomery's most peppy PI!

How I write: during a pandemic
Key word here: slowly.
I'm doing various admin tasks at the moment and part of that is taking a look at anything that needs updating on this website and, of course, I noticed I hadn't written any updates since March when Dead Ringers was published. Back then, Covid-19 was on everyone's lips and we were all going into a lockdown that we had no frame of reference for. I remember thinking Great! Without all the usual distractions I'm going to get a lot of work done. Hahahaha!
I knew I was already in a fortunate position where I worked from home (and with a study to hole away in - lucky me!) but what I didn't count on was how very strange everything became. Working from home was very different to working from home during a pandemic. Then, being a parent, my offspring went into a vague semblance of homeschool and suddenly I was parent, teacher, worker, all in the same 24-hour day, without any help whatsoever. All I can be grateful for is my kids are nearly grown and largely get on with things themselves but boy, do they talk a lot... usually when I'm in the middle of writing a chapter. And want feeding a lot... usually when I'm really deep into a plot. I felt the constant push and pull of writing hard and then being sucked out of it and losing my place and not knowing how to restart. And there was no way to blow off steam except run on my treadmill a lot and talk to friends over video call/phone which kept me sane.
As for the writing... I seriously slowed down. Instead of producing up to six books a year, I might just barely make three this year (two to publish and one to holdover for next year is current thinking). My whole team experienced the same issues: we all had kids and jobs and how were we supposed to get anything done?! So I put my foot on the brakes and stopped going nuts about it and adopted a "shrug" policy. What I could get done, I would do and that was that. And the key word was slowly. I tried to do something rather than nothing but many days, it was nothing. Some days it was just completing those small admin tasks that I could do in short bursts. I'm still catching up but I'll get there. And there will be new books soon!

Dead Ringers cover reveal, preview, and pre-order
I'm so excited to bring you the final part of the Deadlines Mystery Trilogy but first... a note on Covid-19.
I can't avoid mentioning it. It's what the world is talking about right now. There is so much on our minds, and so many worries for our family, friends, and communities, that it seems like a strange time to launch a new book. Frivolous, even. But we do need distraction, entertainment and an economy that continues during isolation. So, I felt it was the right decision to continue with the launch, hopefully give you a few hours reading peace, and maybe even a laugh or two while times feel so uncertain.
On with the show...
From the bestselling world of the Lexi Graves Mysteries...
When obituaries and entertainment reporter, Shayne Winter overhears a passing comment about a vanished woman, her interest is immediately piqued. But in Los Angeles, one more missing person doesn't qualify as a story. After all, she's told, disillusioned young starlets frequently have their Hollywood dreams shattered.
When one missing woman becomes two and some more digging reveals several more, Shayne knows she stumbled onto a possible serial killer stalking the city. Connecting the dots that link the missing women, Shayne notices a chilling trend. All the girls resemble her new friend, supermodel-turned-actress Daisy Casta. Suspecting the killer's obsession might mean Daisy is his true target, Shayne's investigation unravels the chilling side to the star-studded city.
Shayne hopes shes on her way to getting her next headline but it might cost her everything.
