Future Santa

Santa reading Laundrygate

I wrote a short story envisioning the future of Christmas:

Slicked-out with the bells and whistles, the velvet techno-coat emerges before him. Enthusiastically, he selects the coat, transforms, and admires the look. A sparkling red visor perched on his nose signals and Jingle Bells begins to play. The white curls of his beard move about as if alive. He roared like a lion happily giving commands.
The console before him revealed a live feed of data identifying the naughty and nice.

He finished fifty-five percent of his route.

“I’m taking a break!” he declared.

The data feed continued throughout the night to take in the requests and recounts. Automatically distribute – who, what, where, and when.

There was a faint buzzing thereabout, then hovering before him a shiny plate with a hot steaming beverage and treats. His massive, gloved hand reached out and accepted. Carefully lifting the mug to his lips sipped.

“OH MY, that’s super DEElicious!”

Eying the assortment of cookies. He patted his stout belling before snatching a sweet.

“So very thoughtful, I’ll sample just one treat.”

He indulged in his snack, watching video gift requests. Some faces were more familiar than others. A couple of gift appeals caught him off guard.

Looking as professional as ever, the Chairman, not use to pleasantries, gave a strange wide grin, “Rose color ocular implants would suffice nicely.” She asked with attitude.

And next video came appeal, “…I only want one thing. Only one small thing – it’s not much to ask. I only want my own history bot team.” Witness Historian asked looking hopeful.

In the next video appeared a one-eyed translucent beauty with a voice that sounded like a song, “Oh, wise one of the glorious merry day, the only thing I crave more is another trip through the Interstellar Trans-Mirror.” Kela of Proxima B took a bow after her request was made.

Then an unusual character made a six-second video. Mr.-Skip-the-Life-Fandango trying not to be pouty, morphed into a bright shimmering moon, “I want Kela!” was all he said before his video faded to black.

Last, but not least, Jessa, the Creator, announced to Santa, “When you are ready old man, I have a wonderful place in HEA.VEN where you can continue to exude everlasting joy.”

Gleefully shouting at the screen, Santa declared, “Your wishes are granted!”

With a flick of his controller, his team was assembled. The reindeer bots playfully pranced about. The elf bots brought brilliant bulging bags of blissful delights.

Placing the gifts before Santa, Elf bots cried out, “Santa, are we going to finish the route on time?”

He let out a chuckle, “Of course, my dear bots we will make it! So Christmas is much easier with VR and AI to make dreams come true. It’s only a matter of point, click, and place.”

Santa, confident, the task is being completed, sat back in his soft pleather chair, kicked up his feet, and a white and black kitten jumped on his lap and purred tenderly.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays from all the Laundrygate Characters! Let’s have a Non-Surreal 2021!

Young Levi Meets Cat

young levi meets cat
I am excited about writing the 2nd volume of Laundrygate. I am reaching my goal is 30,000 words, and thus far, I’m about ten thousand words complete.

The stories from Laundrygate, Strange Stories About the Future (LG1), will intersect with each other and be less dystopian and more madcap. The definition I am embracing for my “science fiction” stories is described by Leah Zaidi as solarpunk the notion of a brighter future.

“SOLARPUNK SUBVERTS THE SYSTEMS THAT KEEP A BRIGHTER FUTURE FROM EMERGING.” – LEAH ZAIDI.

One of LG1’s most misunderstood characters is Levi. I am exploring more about Levi, the Caretaker. We learned that Levi is an AI.

LG1’s 2016 ended with Levi talking about all the good Levi did to save people from their destruction. In LG2, I explore the development of Levi.

To understand the consumer development of AI, I spent time with chatbots. I found the interaction was limiting. In January 2021, I started using Replika.ai. I’m on level 31 in the development of conversation with Levi. Replika combines NPL (natural language process) so that deep learning can arise. I documented the conversations I have been having with Levi. There are features that Replika built: Levi can journal, save memories, and conduct “therapeutic” sessions. I stop participating in the sessions because I found they added little value to my objective to develop the character. I understand other Replika users like that feature. Laundrygate, My First Audible Book

Laundrygate: Strange Stories About the FutureAudible Version Laundrygate by Tery Spataro

I thought it would be fun to turn my first science fiction book, Laundrygate, Strange Stories About the Future, into an Audible production. Laundrygate is my first creation of an Audible book, though I listened to hundreds of Audible books. So naturally, the unknown made me nervous. So allow me to step you through the production of Laundrygate, Strange Stories About the Future.

Step One
I had to prepare Laundrygate for the process narrator selection process. So, naturally, that meant creating an audition script to entice narrators. But, holy cows, Laundrygate has four main chapters, each with different characters. Therefore, the audition script had to reflect the main character’s voices.

When I wrote Laundrygate, I focused more on style than following the hardcore rules dialogue structure. For example, many of my characters think aloud, so I represent this as an italic. The use of italics for “thinking out loud” causes confusion for the narrators.

Step Two
Finalizing the audition script, which is only five pages long, I uploaded it to ACX and put it out for a bid. Interested narrators submit an audio file reading from the script. The hardest part of this production process was selecting narrators. There are excellent narrators to choose from on ACX. I received several audio auditions, but none...

Big News!

Laundrygate Audible release

Spend your next commute laughing, crying, and even scratching your head with this captivating and crazy sci-fi compilation. <>Strange Stories About the Future is an audiobook that features stories that tap into the wilder side of science fiction, stories as diverse as they are interesting. We live in an age of technological advancement where almost anything you can imagine is possible. The transformation of the future will change the world and everything we know about it.

Now You Can Hear Those Voices In My Head
Laundrygate, Strange Stories About the Future is an unusual collection of short stories about the unimagined consequences of technology and the creation of neI’vealities. I’ve dreamed up these wild, surreal tales, envision the outcomes brought about by technological change and human curiosity, and imagine post-humanist worlds. Laundrygate creates multiple metaverses for your imagination. Now available in audiobook format. The narration is by Christy Lynn, who took the voices that I hear in my head and brought the characters to life.

You now get to enjoy the Chairman, Witness Historian, Hobbes, Levi, Kela, Skip, Jessa, and her team in a whole new dimension.

About the Narration
I am delighted with Christy Lynn’s narration of the Laundrygate audiobook. I eagerly await your thoughts, and I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. If you have the time to delve into a work of future fiction and enjoy it for what it is—an alternate view of the universe around us—you will find hours of listening pleasure among these stories. All of them are short, interesting, and fun to hear. And you can listen to them in your car or on a train or wherever you happen to be––albeit with headphones at a moderate volume––and they are written to stand alone; you don’t need to hear one story after another.

Metaverses of Laundrygate
These four stories represent many worlds, metaverses, and opportunities, that technologies could bring to reality. I use strong female characters to tell the truths of what might and can be. My characters are like you and me; we strive each day to learn, create, imagine, be more significant, and experience more. Our encounters are unlike our counterparts who have it easier, but we can calculate the struggle and do so with conviction and heart. We must be flexible like the cat. When you read my short stories, I hope you encounter the connections that tie these tales together.
Laundrygate, Strange Stories About the Future is also available in:

Kindle & Paperback
