Jenny Lundquist is the author of seven middle grade and young adult titles including Seeing Cinderella and The Charming Life of Izzy Malone, as well as The Princess in the Opal Mask. Like any good California girl, she enjoys wine tasting, parasailing on Lake Tahoe, spontaneous trips to the sea, and wearing too many layers any time she ventures to places where it’s actually cold. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State University and lives in Northern California with her family and their rescue pup, Ollie the Wonderdog, who occasionally makes unscheduled appearances at Jenny’s virtual school visits. A typical day in Jenny’s life includes consuming copious amounts of coffee and managing multiple kid and canine distractio ...more

The ending of The Opal Crown was the series ending that I had always envisioned. But, you know what they say, never say never! Thanks again for contacting me.(less)

I am so sorry for not seeing this sooner! I sincerely apologize if you already had to turn in your project without my responses. Seeing Cinderella isn't a true story; but the inspiration for the book came from something really embarrassing that happened to me in seventh grade. A boy I liked licked his fingers and then ran them down the lenses of my glasses. I was really shy in middle school so this mortified me. Years later when I was an adult, I made light of it while I was telling the story and said something like, "My glasses had magic powers. They repelled boys." Then the writer in me thought: "But what if my glasses DID have magic powers?" Wondering this eventually led me to develop the book that became Seeing Cinderella.

Happy Holidays!

“What's all this nonsense about odd vision and not fitting in? There are plenty worse things in this world than not fitting in--like fitting in way too much. You strike me as a real original, Izzy Malone, in a world that loves carbon copies. If you think you beautified something, I believe you. I've never understood why folks love safe, neutral colors so much. Colors are what make this world worth living in.”
Jenny Lundquist, The Charming Life of Izzy Malone

“Given her humble origins, few could have imagined the heights she would one day ascend.”
Jenny Lundquist, The Princess in the Opal Mask

“The bracelet and the first charm appeared the day I punched Austin Jackson in the nose. I didn't mean to slug him. His face just got in my way. It was a bruising end to a disastrous first month in middle school.”
Jenny Lundquist, The Charming Life of Izzy Malone
