Elayne Douglas is an indie author who published her debut novel The Daughter of Dust and Blood in September of 2023. It is the first in a trilogy. Her second work, Symphony, is a provoking feminist anthology.
Coffee addicted and always reading or writing, she lives with her husband in North Carolina. She is currently working on several writing projects, including a cyberpunk novel, a coming-of-age novel, and a handful of Dramione fan fiction among other unhinged writing projects.

3.5 stars. I hate to say I’m disappointed in this book. It kept me interested enough to read every night, but the ultimate reveal just didn’t come across as a shock.

The psychopathy of Amy was wild to read, but there was so much that fell flat in thi

This is going to be a hard review to write because I feel so conflicted about my final rating and just how much I actually liked this book. For one thing, I think the second half is a big improvement on the first half and, though this is " Read more of this review »

“Give me your mistakes, your anger; your misdeeds, and let me taste your sins on my tongue until they are gone”
Elayne Douglas, The Daughter of Dust and Blood

“The thought sparked a flash of images that felt like a fever dream stepping from the shadows of my subconscious. Gritty dust being swept up in a forceful wind, rough fabrics snapping. Something about it made me ache.”
Elayne Douglas, The Daughter of Dust and Blood

“Take your anger and use it. Defend these people. You’re not allowed to cower.”
Elayne Douglas, The Daughter of Dust and Blood

“The person, be it gentleman or lady, who has not pleasure in a good novel, must be intolerably stupid.”
Jane Austen, Northanger Abbey

“In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”
Jane Austen, Pride And Prejudice

“I can listen no longer in silence. I must speak to you by such means as are within my reach. You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it, eight years and a half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant. You alone have brought me to Bath. For you alone, I think and plan. Have you not seen this? Can you fail to have understood my wishes? I had not waited even these ten days, could I have read your feelings, as I think you must have penetrated mine. I can hardly write. I am every instant hearing something which overpowers me. You sink your voice, but I can distinguish the tones of that voice when they would be lost on others. Too good, too excellent creature! You do us justice, indeed. You do believe that there is true attachment and constancy among men. Believe it to be most fervent, most undeviating, in F. W.

I must go, uncertain of my fate; but I shall return hither, or follow your party, as soon as possible. A word, a look, will be enough to decide whether I enter your father's house this evening or never.”
Jane Austen, Persuasion

“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.”
Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

“He's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”
Emily Brontë, Wuthering Heights
