Eagles
Berry College, about 60 miles from me, has a pair of eagles nesting. I visited there Saturday but could see nothing but the next. I plan to monitor the webcam and drive down for a full day as the fledglings develop.
I am still playing with my new camera and shoot sunrise yesterday. I am posting the first and last pictures.

Re-issue of some books
I decided in December to unpublish my earlier books and run them through a software editor to catch more of the pesky glitches. I am also changing some of the cover art. I should have that task completed by Mid-February. I also revised the Browse Books section of the website. How do you like the Diamond and the Edinburgh Madam's new cover?

Metis America Map
I finally got the Photoshopped map for the Metis America Trilogy. The boundaries are those for the opening of volume two with a working title of Metis America: Expansion. Next month I plan to start a series of blogs discussing plots and themes and soliciting reader feedback.

New Learning Curves
I just received my new DSLR camera and it is intimidating. I have a class lined up and have found some people who have the same camera and who are willing to help me while I am in Pigeon Forge and later.
I have started review swaps in order to market my new book. I find it challenging to be honest and respectful of the energy these other authors have put into their work. Reviews are a genre unto themselves.
As another marketing tool I have become a tweeter: DeweyDempsey@DeweyDempsey. That is also a challenge for someone who is used to popping out one or two thousand words at a sitting.
I have some links if you are interested in the Metis, who provided the title and some unifying themes for my latest novel.

Nature Photography
I will be attending the 25th Annual Wilderness Wildlife Week http://www.mypigeonforge.com/events/w... in Pigeon Forge this weekend. It is highly recommended and has several workshops on basic issues in nature photography. It also has interesting sessions on the history and folklore of Great Smokies region. There are presentations on John Muir and Theodore Roosevelt at their meeting in 1903 and its role in the creation of the national park system.

Moseying for Moose and Mooning for Eagles
I have shot pictures of elk in seven locations from Oregon to North Carolina. The slideshow is of elk and deer in the Great Smoky Mountains on Solstice of 2014. I saw moose at the Grand Tetons at the Rocky Mountain National Park two decades ago. I have lived in Vermont and Quebec for five summers and saw plenty of moose crossing signs but never saw a moose. I have done a bit of research and found that the Mountain Katahdin Region of Maine is excellent for moose sightings. I have just bought a new camera with better lens and plan to go moose sighting this summer. My ex-wife and I used to row a raft to the middle of Antelope Lake in California and lazily watch the bald eagles soar and hunt. Never took any pictures. Katahdin also has eagle sightings so I hope to capture some pictures of them.
I joined the Photographic Society of Chattanooga http://chattanoogaphoto.org/index.php and will attend workshops to learn more about my new camera and nature photography.
I can combine research for the second novel in my Metis Trilogy and take pictures. Tough duty. But, someone has to do it.

New book and book revisions
I have published the new novel.
Metis America: The Foundation is a utopian alternate history in which the civil war does not happen. Millard Fillmore is elected president twice and becomes the most revered president.
Slaves are emancipated in 1854 and women in 1855. The trilogy will end with a unified, blended America.
I am using BookBaby to distribute the ebook version and they are slow. The paperback version is available at Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Metis-America-Foundation-Alternate-History/dp/0984905189/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1421160477&sr=1-1&keywords=Dewey+Dempsey
I am beginning a new approach to writing books two and three in the trilogy. I will be blogging and asking for ideas about points of divergence, plot and characters.
I have retired all but two of my other titles while I make minor text revisions and design new covers.

Children's Book
I have just published a whimsical book for children 9 to 13. It features an elk I see at the reserve on the way to Yachats, Oregon. It is only available on the iTunes Store, since it is in multi-media format. You have to go the book section and search by my name.
I have returned to researching and writing my utopian alternate history whose working title is METIS AMERICA; A BLENDED COUNTRY -1850 to 1854. It is a huge project covering the continent and several key point of divergence from received history. Among other timelines, there is no civil war.
