She is the self-published author of "Corvus" and "When Mountains Fall." She started writing "Corvus" as a sophomore in high school, and has continued working on different pieces ever since. “People don't think of the raven's story. They don't think of what it once was or why it became what it is now, or if any of it was ever fair. They just see a raven.”
Maya Brochu, Corvus

“Remember how it rained yesterday?" She asked. The dewdrops left marks on our backs and softened our hair.
"Yeah," I said, "I remember"
"Well that's what control is like. You don't get to choose when the clouds come out and cover up the stars." She said, and there was a really bright star right above her. She was watching it, it shone in the middle of her iris. "If you did get to control it," she said, "you'd never take the time to recognize how beautiful the stars could be when they did show through. There'd never be any clouds, and one day you'd learn to control the stars too. You'd expect them every day. They'd lose their stories. Lose what makes them beautiful.”
Maya Brochu, Corvus

“I guess there are some fates worse than death," I remember I had told Peyton that night, and she had turned to look at me, her eyes reflecting the stars and the moonlight.
"Maybe." She had said, "But having a story is better than being left with nothing at all.”
Maya Brochu, Corvus

“Nobody chooses who they love, and I think that's what makes it mean something.”
Maya Brochu, Corvus

“He’d be the first to tell you that in the end, everything’s a lie. That the only thing that drives the tears in our eyes, the blade to our skin, our oars to the water time and time again despite the sea that stretches ceaselessly before our eyes is the truth that we make in our minds. The truth that says that feeling something is better than becoming lifeless, that feeling pain is better than feeling nothing at all. The truth that says that the blood on our skin doesn’t stand as a mark of death, but a mark of life that says that despite it we live.”
Maya Brochu, When Mountains Fall

“They're supposed to be okay because they're alive, and that's what being alive is supposed to mean.”
Maya Brochu, When Mountains Fall

“I guess there are some fates worse than death," I remember I had told Peyton that night, and she had turned to look at me, her eyes reflecting the stars and the moonlight.
"Maybe." She had said, "But having a story is better than being left with nothing at all.”
Maya Brochu, Corvus

“If control belonged to you or me or anyone else we'd never be here together." She took my hand, it was wet with dewdrops, it was gentle and soft like the kiss of the moon. It filled in all the empty spaces where I wished control would be.
"It's the reason the stars and us and everything are still beautiful.”
Maya Brochu, Corvus
