What a great debut. The first two thirds I was enjoying as a quirky bit of historical fiction and a fun experiment in voice, and the final third I found profound and emotionally devastating. Perfect!

Gorgeous book! A wild ride, I'm not 100% sure what I just read, but it's very surprising and beautiful. There's plenty of spiritual meditations on life, art and death, but for me all that stuff was sufficiently rooted in the characters that it didn't ...more
