Stare at the screen or page until you figure out something, even if what you figure out sucks and you abandon it later. I think in most cases, Writer's Block is a nicer way of saying you aren't properly motivated.(less)

I often leave character descriptions vague because I believe the reader is better equipped to build a mental image than the writer. Hopefully the character's actions, personality, and behavior help readers build a personal image based on their own experiences.

When I read the book, I picture Todd to have dark hair and be slightly taller and more muscular than the average boy. He's olive-skinned and has dark eyes and usually carries an intense look on his face...like he is blessed (or cursed) with wisdom beyond his years.

Does that help?(less)

What Prepper Fiction Says about the War for America’s Soul

During research for House of the Rising Sun, I found myself unexpectedly plunged into the murky depths of self-published novels written on the topic of civilizational collapse. In these stories, the most common cause for the “Fall” is an electromagnetic pulse (EMP), a burst of radiation powerful enough to damage or destroy the delicate electronics that power much of our modern world. Sometimes the Read more of this blog post »

"Andy Weir cannot write and I'm tired of people pretending he can.

First, let's talk about characters- well, there is no character here. I only see a vague man-shaped science textbook in an astronaut suit. Wait, let me put my glasses on. OH, I know him" Read more of this review »

Thomas World by Richard Cox
"Honestly, I’m not sure the book really works if you’re not a fan of Philip K. Dick. I am, so it did. It doesn’t really stand on its own, then, which isn’t a bad thing. It’s just….I liked it, I did, it just never felt entirely necessary. I will say, t" Read more of this review »

"This was a total dogs breakfast. Not recommended. I really dislike this story. There was little thought or sensitivity put into it. The premise is completely ridiculous ( imagine explaining quantum theory to a toddler). The book tries to be suspensef" Read more of this review »
