I’m conflicted… and maybe the problem is me. Lately, none of the books I’ve read have really hit the spot. And ugh, I hate being someone who gives “bad reviews” (because let’s be real—no one likes getting them), but I can’t lie. That said, the special edition of this book is STUNNING. So points for that.

I remember loving The Shadows Between Us (don’t ask me for details because my goldfish brain said ✨bye✨). This sequel follows Chrysantha—Alessandra’s sister—as she tries to win her freedom: financially and romantically. Enter the new heir to her late husband’s estate. Cue drama.

Here’s the thing: this book felt kind of... dull? Like, nothing really happened. Which was a bummer, because the first one had way more bite.

That said, I did love Chrysantha’s determination to be independent—especially her desire to just be left alone to do what she actually wants: read. And honestly? That’s the dream.

At times, she gave off major “whiny but also kind of right” energy. Like, yes, she complained a lot, but she also had valid points. She’s a woman navigating a world built by and for men, where she’s treated like property. So yeah, I started to get her.
Just this quote alone says it all: “𝘔𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘴 𝘐 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘮𝘦𝘵, 𝘺𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘮 𝘪𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘴.”

As with most of Levenseller’s books, I found myself liking the side characters and love interest way more than the main character. I usually love strong, independent girlies (hi, Manon. hi, Poppy), but these ones always feel like they’re missing something. And whatever that something is… it grates on me (might just be a me problem, though).

Definitely read The Shadows Between Us—that one’s a solid 10/10.
So would I recommend the sequel? Kinda. If you’re in the mood for a softer, low-stakes enemies-to-lovers romance with a feminist twist... this might be your vibe. ...more

If you know me, you know I preach like a madwoman that everyone should read Shatter Me. I’ve proudly converted a few souls to the Church of Warner. And honestly, how could you 𝘯𝘰𝘵 fall for that man? He’s literal perfection. End of story.

So when I found out we were getting more books in this universe? I was ALL IN. And to make it even better? This one follows James. Warner’s little brother. And ohhhh boy, I’m developing a major crush on him.

Don’t get me wrong—my love for Warner (who, by the way, is 30 in this book, so yeah, perfect age for me) will forever reign supreme, but James? He’s got that charming, stubborn, “messy but lovable” energy. I ate it up.

This first book in the new series follows Rosabelle, a girl surviving in the only place left where The Reestablishment still rules. She fights daily to get food for herself and her sick sister—but it’s never enough. So when she's assigned a new mission to eliminate some intruders (oh, did I forget to mention she’s an assassin? Oops), she doesn’t hesitate. Survival leaves no room for second thoughts.

And who does she have to kill? You guessed it: James.

Through a series of chaotic (and dangerous AF) events, James survives—and takes Rosabelle with him to the Waffle (don’t ask. Just read the book).

James is tasked with digging into Rosabelle’s secrets. Everything she knows about The Reestablishment’s twisted power plays. All while Rosabelle has to stay cold, detached, emotionally dead (no room for falling for the hot blond boy who makes her smile, right?). But of course, feelings begin to unravel. And so does everything we thought we knew about The Reestablishment and their shady rise to global control. The way the author shows how technology can seriously mess with people's minds is WILD.

I loved reconnecting with this world. Seeing the OG characters again? Cue the emotional damage. I already can't wait to dive into book two with my girls. LET’S GOOOOO. ...more
