Phantom Pages October 10/5 – 10/6 2024

We are so excited to be apart of the Phantom Pages! Both M and I will be there Saturday Oct 5th at 11am – 3pm among 12 other local authors. Not only is it an honor but it also exhilarating being apart of this community. If you had asked us a year ago on how we’d get to these kinds of things, we would have stared blankly and laughed nervously.

We both view ourselves as baby authors, even if M released Pack or Pray ten years ago. Come join us at this spooktastic book fair! Get your next new favorite book, meet the wonderful authors of Kansas City! We are dying to meet our new readers, fans, and book friends!

If you’d like to know more, please click the link to Facebook’s Phantom Pages!

15 More Days!

As of 9/13/24:

ARC Readers:

124 BookSiren10 Other

Reviews:

26 Goodread Reviews06 Instagram Reviews02 TikTok Reviews

That means about 25% of all ARC readers who signed up have completed the book and left a review! For those not in the know, the average of completed ARCs is usually 10-20%, so we are doing pretty dang well comparatively! (Of course, we would love 100% but that’s as much a fantasy as our books 😉)

Ratings:

Average Rating: 4.32/5

13 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐11 ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐04 ⭐⭐⭐03 DNF

Most common “negative” – 3rd Person POV

Most common “positive” – Lovable side-characters, the banter between MCs

Average Spice rating: 🌶🌶

Comps mentioned by readers: Lucifer (TV show), Beauty and the Beast, Constantine, Jessica Jones, and Supernatural.

We love seeing what everyone has thought of the book and there’s so much positive, it’s making our hearts full! Even the constructive criticism has been appreciated!

Side note: Man, we had no idea there was such a dislike for 3rd person POV😂 Thank you to those who muscled through and still enjoyed it! We promise, having 3rd person instead of 1st is the best move with how these books are set to evolve!

We really want to thank everyone who has been apart of this journey so far! We know more may still be reading and those reviews will come in time. Just thank you infinity cause we cannot do this without you guys!

Important Update

Release day is getting close and we are so excited! We have a few things to cover in this email, some great news and some… well… not-so-great news (for us authors more so than you guys). Let’s start off with the good!

The release date for Dance with the Devil has been moved up to Sept 29!

Some things have come up that interfere with the original October 1 date, and we decided rather than making everyone wait even longer (boooo) we are just going to release it a couple of days earlier!

This means everyone will be able to start posting Amazon reviews starting Sept 29! We know it’s still a month away, but don’t worry. We will make sure to send a reminder out the week before and day before so everyone who is planning to can get their reviews ready to post!

Additionally, we have chosen to drop the price of the eBook to a special launch price of $0.99! This will help those who want to leave “verified purchase” reviews of Dance with the Devil, and this will also apply to Pre-Orders. If you already pre-ordered at the $3.99 listing, don’t worry you will only be charged the new $0.99 price on 9/29!

Pre-Orders also help ranking of books on Amazon so they are more visible, so get yours soon if you can!

Speaking of posting reviews

The response we have gotten so far from you guys has been PHENOMENAL. Every single one of you that has rated and reviewed your love for Charlie and Lucifer and their shenanigans just makes our hearts soar with happiness! The encouraging words and outpouring of enjoyment for something C and I have worked so hard on means the universe to us and it’s definitely fueling the drive to get MORE into your hands as soon as possible.

THANK. YOU.

If you still haven’t had the chance to leave a review, are still finishing the book, or just want more places to spread the word, here is a list of links for all the places you can drop a post on:

Next bit of great news: We have a discord!

Just as much as we love to write, C and I love having a sense of community. We felt the best way to do this was to have a general “meeting place” for all our readers and Plot Chasers to gather and not only get updates on our work but also have a place for readers to come together and enjoy each other’s company and talk about books they love!

At the moment, it is a very basic and simple chat space but it will be prettified over the next month to become your new favorite cozy little book nook or book club. Please feel free to join us on the Madison Chase Books discord by clicking here.

Street Teams

As we move closer to launch, we are going to start looking for our Street Team to start generating the hype. This is a limited group (don’t worry, you do not have to be part of our Street Team to remain a Plot Chaser and continue to get future ARC opportunities!). While we do want you all to let us know if you are interested in being a part of that team, please understand that not everyone will be selected. What does the Street Team do? They are a group of people who love this book so much they want to help it get off to the best start possible! This can be done by:

Posting reviews and book recs on multiple platformsTalking about the book in real life (word-of-mouth is powerful)Sharing official updates and announcements on their social mediaRequesting the book from local libraries and bookstores (the more requests the more likely they will order copies!)Host us for an author takeover/interview on your personal blogs or pages

The list goes on to how you might help us! So, please, if you would like to be a part of this team, send us an email.

Now for the not-awesome news:

Being an Indie Author is HARD, y’all. And things still manage to slip past us no matter how many times we think we have looked over it. The worst thing we have discovered (today in fact) is that our file we had submitted for the print editions was missing chapter 1!

THE HORROR!!!!!

Thanks to one of our very own Plot Chasers, this was thankfully discovered in enough time to correct it prior to launch. It was only noticed by them because they were having trouble downloading the BookSirens file and we had to provide them a special file. This also happened to be the print file. I know there were at least one or two more of you who received this specific file, so PLEASE if the copy you read has Chapter 1 starting off with Charlie walking to the precinct to get chewed out by Carmen, reach out to us for the missing chapter! The correct Chapter 1 should have her meeting Lucifer for the first time (not the Prologue.)

This has now been corrected and the print versions are good to go. Sadly, we now have 20 author copies that were printed with this mistake. Ah…. the writing life.

And because we don’t want to leave on a bad note:

We are looking into holding a TikTok Live launch party on Saturday, September 29 (time TBD). What we do know is that we want to hold two giveaways during the party. The first giveaway will be a drawing for a special gift box that includes a signed copy of the book plus a few extra goodies to be announced during the Live. The second drawing will be for the First 5 Reviewers as we mentioned in our previous email, where someone will be drawn to receive a free signed copy of Dance with the Devil

To enter the Dance with the Devil Gift Box, you can either get an entry by leaving a review for the book (make sure you tag us so we see you!) or by joining the Launch Party Live event. If one of our First 5 happen to win the Box during the first giveaway, reviewer #6 will take their place in the drawing for the signed copy of the book.

Again, if you have any burning questions about us, the book, or the writing process, get them ready and we will be happy to answer during the launch party.

So that’s it for now. We know it was a lengthy email but we definitely had a lot to update you all with. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for all the kind words and awesomeness you have shown us. It only makes us want to write more and more stories to share with you guys. As always, if you run into any issues, reach out and we will try our best to help you figure things out!

Happy Reading our little Bookworms, Book Dragons, and Book Sluts!

Dance with the Devil Release Date

It has taken me and Melissa roughly 4 years to get this book written (If you don’t count the ten or so years we had developing these characters before getting started on the actual story). Why did it take so long you ask? Well, life has been hectic, to put it mildly.

Not all the chaos was bad, of course. We had a baby, two families grew into one, and we even bought a house! With all that–plus some not so fun things–writing got put on the back burner. It was only this last year that we finally dusted off our draft and went full swing to get it finished.

We found an amazing developmental editor, K.F. Starfell (you can find on TikTok as @wyverealm.author), who helped make sure everything flowed well and found her second-favorite book boyfriend along the way! We just finished the final touches before releasing the book to our Plot Chasers (you know who you are) for ARC Review who got their hands on the ARC copies today!

That being said, we do have more room to add to our team, if you are interested please reach out to us through our contact page and let us know! We will do one last round of ARCs in two weeks.

That brings us to the best part.

Dance with the Devil: a Road to Hell Series novel will be released on:

October 1, 2024

What could be better than that? Well, for starters, not only is release day only 2 months away, but we have made Dance with the Devil available for eBook pre-order at a discounted price of $3.99 starting today!

From the World to the Page: Thou Mayest

One of the best things about being a writer is that inspiration can come from literally anywhere at any time.

Never let it be said that you can’t pull something extraordinary from the ordinary. It’s what writers do every single day when they sit down and put word to page. Tiny little pieces of extraordinary plucked from the every day progression of life, sculpted and shaped into art.

That’s where this little segment “From the World to the Page” is going to come in.

I want to regularly shine a light on our little slice of life wherever we find magic. Sometimes it will simply be a moment of appreciation, or a little gushing of inspiration. Other times, especially when it comes to local businesses, its purpose will be two-fold. Some times these places need their moment in the spotlight, just so others who may not have known about them before can discover them and enjoy them the way we have.

That is exactly where this first blog post in this segment aims.

Thou Mayest is a hidden gem of a coffee shop and bar in Kansas City, Missouri. Yes… coffee and booze. All at the same time. On Mother’s Day, C and I went our for some uninterrupted writing time. After checking out all the shops at the River Market in downtown KCMO (highly recommend) we stopped at a coffee shop called Thou Mayest.

I’d heard about it before, but had never had a chance to check it out. I am so glad we did.

First off, it is incredibly cozy in the best way. It was nearly full up by the time we arrived in the late morning, but we managed to snag an open couch near the door. With a mimosa in hand and a din of conversation buzzing gently around us, we were able to put some more words to paper.

But that isn’t what the point of this post is.

While we were sitting there, we were really drawn into our surroundings. Homemade poptarts, interesting cocktails, yummy coffee, a screen playing video clips of serene locations, surrounded by brick, rock, pieces of driftwood, and even the occasional Odin’s Ladder hanging over our heads. We decided quickly that one of our characters, Jenna Brant, would have absolutely been a regular at this unusual coffee house, and a version of it will be into a coming book.

If you are ever in the Kansas City area looking for a coffee non-chain coffee house, you should give Thou Mayest at the River Quay, or one of its sister locations, a try. I know we will be back ourselves!

Supporting Local Authors

It's truly amazing what a community of passionate, like minded, individuals can do for one another especially for indie and self-published authors. This is how those individuals become known by having supporting individuals.

If you live in the Kansas city area, please support your local authors by donating, sharing, or even spreading awareness - really anything that your willing to do could help your future favorite author. The best books are still waiting to have the acknowledgment that they deserve.

If you love anything bookish this catalog will have it! Please help make this become reality. Thank for your love and support.

Click the image and it will take you to learn more about this amazing opportunity.

Re-Blogging A Little Snarky Advise from Baby-Author Me

Sometimes going back through old material is enough to drive you to a bottle of cheap whiskey. You sit there, reading words that actually came out of your brain, that you had the audacity to put onto paper (virtual or otherwise) wondering what could have possibly been running through your mind.

But then, there are moments–brief shining glimpses of hope–that you stumble on something that came from you and you smile and nod and think, “we were going to be alright.”

I happened upon one of these moments while going through old blog posts on my previous author page. It isn’t an award-winning piece by any means, and definitely outlines the whole MuggleNet writer vibe in its quality (no hate to my fellow ex-MN writers. Y’all were a blast and some of you were the envy of my baby-author heart with your skills) but reading back through it definitely showed a part of self-publishing that I still struggle with. One that I used humor to survive.

So I am sharing it below. Keep in mind as you read it that Deny the moon = Pack or Prey (this was written before I found its “true” title) and Duckicorn no longer exists as it once was (as an entity, it will always exist in my heart <3) so some parts my read a little weird. But the sentiment remains the same today as it did then and I hope other indie authors currently going through the struggle will find solace in knowing they aren’t alone.
