The best thing a reader has said about LIVING PROOF probably came from my father, who, when he got to the end of the book, told me he "cried real tears, like tears at a wedding."

Knowing I had touched him through my writing was a precious moment I've never forgotten.(less)

You don't have pages to build up to the good stuff. You have to hook a busy, distracted person right away, then sustain that reader's interest throughout, especially in a thriller. So I've concentrated on speeding up my pacing, writing shorter chapters, and ending most chapters with some sort of twist or surprise. (less)

“Christians rejected the need for proof to support belief in God, yet dismissed proof altogether when it was there.”
Kira Peikoff, Living Proof

“I’m happy to be here,” she said loudly, as much to the room as to Helen. “So when do we get down to business?”
Kira Peikoff, No Time to Die

“You take any past era in history, and propose that one day the Earth will sustain seven billion people. They’d never believe you. They’d think everyone would starve and die. And yet the industrial revolution proved that a growing population could thrive. In a scientific world, there’s no limitation to how many people can live in it.”
Kira Peikoff, No Time to Die

“Fiction is like a spider's web, attached ever so lightly perhaps, but still attached to life at all four corners.”
Virginia Woolf, A Room of One’s Own

“When Matt talked about particles being in two places at once, I understood it as a mother. I always existed in two places simultaneously as well: wherever circumstance had placed me, and wherever Morgan was. The only interruption during those next few quiet minutes was when the court reporter walked in and took her seat in the corner, where her steno machine had already been set up.”
Brad Parks, Interference

“Sometimes the maternal drive felt less like a suggestion and more like a command. I stretched out beside Morgan, draped an arm over him, and snuggled as close as I could.”
Brad Parks, Interference
