In the State Department and the Department of Homeland Security, Rye managed complex counterterrorism and national security crises. Erik Rye answered Goodreads's question: What books are on your summer reading list this year? The Wolf Age, by Tore Skeie (history of the Vikings). Anything by Philip K. Dick I still haven't read. The History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Edward Gibbon, although at 6 volumes it might be a couple summers.
