I became fascinated with dolphins after an extraordinary experience that started one night on a lonely stretch of desert coast in the Red Sea. There I was fortunate enough to spend many hours alone with a wild dolphin. By the time I left, I wanted to learn more about these incredible creatures.

I have been a diver since I was eighteen, when I started as a hobby while with the British military. When I was 23 I left the services to open a diving centre in Paphos, Cyprus.

I lived abroad for eighteen years and during that time travelled to many countries, training scuba instructors, conducting technical diver training and working on diving related projects. These varied from photo shoots of sharks, running private courses for Arab sheikhs, and c

Hi Nadia

I had an extraordinary experience with a wild dolphin once in the Red Sea (see here for details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4af14...) and that impressed me as to just how intelligent they are. I started researching them and realised they probably have comparable intellects to our own.

I wondered what they were using all that intelligence for, when we spend so much of our efforts on altering our world while they live in apparent harmony with theirs. That is when I began to imagine the possible alternative way of life they might be living, and what must happen when our world starts to impact on theirs.

Rare dolphin-like marine reptile fossil found in New Zealand

Ichthyosaurs are marine reptiles that evolved about 250 million years ago. Though they resemble dolphins, they have a completely different evolutionary lineage. They swam the oceans while dinosaurs ruled on land, dying out about 94 million years ago.

The New Zealand ichthyosaur was found on the Coverham Station farmstead in the Canterbury region, about 200km northeast of Christchurch.

“I love you for what you are
Though your heart bears scars
From life's harsh tempests
I would not wish it unblemished
Each wound carved your strength
Suffering gave you wisdom
These flaws make you perfect”
