Novelists: What do you do when you stall?
Novel writing typically involves a lot of starts and stalls, and any published novelist will tell you that the worst thing you can do at this point is give up. So what can you do? Messywriters.com has just uploaded a new video where I talk about just that, and describe five little tricks you can use to get your creativity back on track.
The good news is you can also use these techniques to kick off your creativity in the first place. So whether you’re a beginner novelist and don’t know where to start, an intermediate novelist and stuck, or an experienced novelist and…stuck, check out the video for a few ideas that might help. Happy Writing!

Every Day I Start the Book
Funny story: every published novelist I know has forgotten how to write a novel at some point. Some of them (like me) forget the minute they decide to start a new novel.
I’m telling you this in case you’ve already written a novel (or several novels) and think THE NOVEL WORKBOOK FOR MESSY WRITERS isn’t suitable for you. I assure you it is. If you’ve never written a novel, but have always wanted to, this workbook is also for you. If you just decided to write a novel an hour ago, this workbook is for you too. The only criterion for the suitability of this workbook is messiness. And let’s face it, writers are usually messy.
You might not be outwardly messy—you might have quite a tidy office or writing desk for example (if you do, please share your secrets. I can’t find my phone). But inwardly, all writers need to be messy. Messiness is where the magic happens. Inner messiness allows characters to fall in love with the wrong person, hurt themselves, have misunderstandings, make enemies, and lose important objects like magic rings.
Messiness creates drama. As you go through the workbook, you’ll find many of the pages are mostly blank. That’s because it’s your job to fill them with mess. Each page will have prompts and explanations, but ultimately this is your workbook and you need to do the work.
BUT, because you’re messy, you can work on these pages in any order. You can skip pages. You can fill a page and keep going on a sheet of loose-leaf paper that you glue in.
And if you’re confused, or not sure, or need help, you can check out the explanatory videos and other tips on MessyWriters.com.
Buy THE NOVEL WORKBOOK FOR MESSY WRITERS here or through your preferred Amazon store.

Gabrielle on YouTube: Not a Writing Vlog
Exciting news! I’ve started a YouTube channel. I’ve noticed that when I talk to aspiring writers they have a lot of question about the publishing process and the industry and less questions about how to actually write. So I’ve started a series of videos just talking about different aspects of the industry–working with agents, indie publishing, avoiding predatory publishers etc. I’m going to be doing two videos a week and am open to suggestions so if you have questions about the publishing business drop them in a comment here or on one of the videos. Here are the first three videos!
