After stops in all four of Canada’s Western provinces, Jim Carey’s family settled in Winnipeg in 1967, where he has lived ever since. He graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and worked for a small, family-owned custom steel manufacturer for more than three decades, specializing in the field of operational excellence. From there, he worked for the Winnipeg division of a global aerospace parts manufacturer until retiring in 2017 to dedicate time to the ideas that led to the publication of The Wisdom Theory.

The best thing about being a writer is when I overcome that challenge.

The hardest thing about being a writer is not the worst thing about being a writer because when I fail, my ignorance is revealed, in which case I am always disappointed, but not for long because I also know that "revealing one's ignorance" and "expanding one's knowledge" are different words expressing the same meaning.

The worst thing about being a writer is the unnecessary suffering that result from being too afraid to reveal one’s ignorance. The cause of unnecessary suffering is the avoidance of necessary suffering. (less)

“Exceptional intelligence is to a life what a fast vehicle is to a journey. Wisdom is about knowing the right direction. Whether intelligence is an asset or a liability depends on the context.”
James Carey

“Everything a subject knows is the subject’s knowledge. Everything the subject does not know is the subject’s ignorance. A subject’s knowledge expands when and because the subject’s ignorance is revealed via the wise option. The more a subject knows, the more the subject knows how little the subject knows.”
James Carey

“Every expression of wisdom knowledge is different because every context is different. Every genetically inherited copy of wisdom knowledge is identical to the first copy of the social instinct that triggered our species’ origin.”
James Carey
