As promised, here is an excerpt of my latest work in progress. I’m sharing the (mostly) finished product with you a little bit at a time. This is your chance to read parts of the book prior to publication. Hopefully you’ll love it so much you will want the book when it’s released.

The Diary of A.M. Zing is a story of a young English professor who finds a box of diaries in her aunt’s attic. She is compelled to read them and is quickly drawn in by the touching stories of the young girl who wrote them, Ana May Zing. The diaries carry Sage through Ana May’s life of tragedy, hardships and growing pains. Sage can’t help but feel a connection with Ana May; however, she soon learns that the diaries may be significant to others, including Caden Donahey, a maintenance worker at the college where she teaches. THE DIARY OF A.M. Zing_Ex1

Where has the year gone? 2017 has been challenging for me, but it will also go down in the record books as one of the best.

I achieved two huge goals this year, publishing Deadly Deception, and Deadly Discovery, which is the revamped Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, with a new title, cover, and some minor content changes.

Now, the fun part begins, marketing, promoting and getting reviews. These tasks aren’t part of my wheelhouse but they are necessary in order to get my books out to readers.

One thing I did not expect when I re-released Let Sleeping Dogs Lie was the reviews did not transfer to the Deadly Discovery. I was crushed and depressed for days. Hersey and Kleenex stock rose substantially that week. I appreciated every one of those reviews, even the harsh ones. Constructive criticism helps make us better at what we do.

Reviews help potential readers know whether to take a chance on an unknown author. To an author they are like gold. It tells us a reader is willing to expend their precious time to read our book. Then, use more of their valuable time to share their opinions. For every review you leave, a writer gets his wings.

The best gift an author can give a reader is a few hours of escape into a well-written, compelling story. Give the reader your best and they will keep coming back.

The Year Ahead

Currently, I’m working on my next project for 2018. It’s a compelling story about a young English professor, Sage, who discovers a box of diaries in her aunt’s attic. Sage becomes enthralled with the young girl who wrote the diaries, Ana May Zing. Even though Ana May lived decades before Sage, she feels a connection with her. She shares laughter and tears with the forgotten girl who captures her heart. Soon, the diaries become more than just entertainment; Sage learns they may be the key to unraveling the past for Caden Donahey, a mysterious man who comes into her life soon after she discovers the diaries. Could it be a coincidence? Find out what secrets the diaries hold for Sage and Caden.

Since I married my soulmate in 2006, I’ve been a faithful and devoted wife. Today, however, I discovered I have a deep affection for the UPS driver. Several different drivers frequent our home since we order online a great deal, so I do not have a clue which one captured my heart. It doesn’t matter, I will always have a special place in my heart for the hard working soul.

Why? Because when I got home from work today, there on our dining room table was a fabulous box addressed to me.

What was inside the box you ask? Why my precious little babies. I’ve been nurturing them, struggling to make them grow, making them as close to perfect as possible so that one day I could happily send them to their forever homes.

So, here are my babies and I am so proud of them.

For as long as I can remember those words have struck fear into my heart. But the phrase can refer to a lot of different ends. If you’re talking about the end of an era, like high school, it can be both sad and exciting. For some, I’m sure it’s frightening. If you’re talking about the end of the world, well then, that makes the hairs on my neck prickle. But this too depends on you’re outlook on the world now and what you believe will come after ‘the end’.

Thankfully, neither of those situations are what I’m talking about. I’m referring to the end of my work on the sequel to my first novel. The book has been sent to the editor and I’m anxiously waiting for the final touches so it can be released.

If all goes as planned it will be released sometime in September. I just wanted to get the word out so you will be on the look out for its release.
