UPLIFT wins 2 more book awards!
So happy to report 2 more book awards for my novel UPLIFT! The book won the Readers’ Favorite Bronze medal (Fiction — Animals category) and was awarded Winner in the NYC Big Book Awards (Nature category).
Turns out, not all stories have to be told from a human perspective to be inspiring or entertaining! My heartfelt thanks going out to all my readers and supporters who have helped spread the word about this unusual book.

Who knows how far a Clark’s Nutcracker, a Kingfisher, and an ancient Whitebark Pine tree can go on their literary journeys?!
Thank you to all the hard-working judges, and to my supportive readers — can’t do it without you!

UPLIFT makes Nature Conservancy holiday book list!
UPLIFT was listed on The Nature Conservancy’s Cool Green Science blog as a recommended holiday book for 2024. “A great book,” they write, “is the best remedy for end-of-year exhaustion and a great way to ward off that particular family member you’re trying to avoid. Call it self-care through stories. Bibliotherapy, if you will.” Amen to that!
“Mann takes on the ambitious task of using a novel to see the world through animal eyes. (She) is up to the task, and has created a forest world rich in its details. She's found a way to transcent the typical anthropomorphizing of animals stories. . . Reading like part ancient myth and part experimental fiction, (Uplift) is a great read for a cold winter's night."
Check out all 6 books on the list here: https://blog.nature.org/2024/12/07/co...

What Birds Teach us about Family & Friendship
Read my Psychology Today interview with renowned animal researcher Marc Bekoff!
“Jessica Mann's book is a must-read for appreciating how birds sense their world.”
Writer and master naturalist Jessica Mann's riveting new book Uplift clarifies why this is so for everyone who wants to know what birds are thinking and feeling from their point of view. Jessica aptly uses the latest research on their complex social and emotional lives―their family ties and friendships―to weave a compelling and moving story with an important message about the beauty of life in the mountains of the West.
