J.M. August (pen name) was born in San Francisco, and studied at the University of Southern California. While pursuing a degree in architecture, he penned the basis for what would become his first novel, I Heard The Pulse ... The characters, loosely based on real people, are generally young, self-involved people, who are aware of their narcissism yet seek a greater good. He is a self-prescribed moralist, although there is an undercurrent of nihilism in his writing.

J.M. August currently lives in Brentwood, California. He continues to practice design and write.
