Diary of a Writer #5

Hello Reader!

I have been really busy for the last few months. When I started with this Literary Fiction, I did not really realize the emotional toll it would take on me. So, it was absolute slow going, getting to the end of this book. Did I do it justice? I don’t know, but time will tell, and I hope I did. My story deserves it.
But now it is done. This was my eighth novel! And I’m really proud of that, but for a while there I had some serious concerns about getting a good-sized book out there. Fortunately, my concerns were unfounded as this book just grew itself by several chapters! I think 85k is a respectable total!
Now that it’s done, I can give my full attention to two of my older manuscripts. One needs final round edits for publishing and the other major edits before it goes off to my Beta readers.
Have a wonderful day, Reader.
Kind regards,
Devorah.

Book Review: A Tale of Wild Geese by Rosalie Fox

A Tale of Wild Geese (Birds of War Book 1) A Tale of Wild Geese by Rosalie Fox

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When someone can write a gripping tale about ordinary, everyday people, trying to live normal lives in extraordinary times, you know you've got a winner.
Rosalie Fox is a poet writing novels and things like "The biscuits tasted of love and home and home was wherever she was," just stays with you.
It was worth the late nights and I CAN'T WAIT to read the other two novels!

Diary of a Writer #4

Hullo Reader!
Welcome back to another week of writing.
Things are moving along quite nicely with my first book of 2025.
My book sales and pages read aren't moving at all! 😃
And that's okay. Things will happen as they should. I know I should up my book posts but it is something I need to get into, and I know I'm procrastinating out of fear. I will push through. I mean, if I can hit submit to publish my book, I can write a little blurb and share little bits about my books.
Right now I'm just working on posting daily on social media. But my main focus is on staying consistent with my writing. That is where my heart is. And it must be if you consider I'm 30k words into my seventh novel.
And in other news, I'm on the hunt for the ideal screen to help me when I do my edits. I love my laptop but I've got a small one so, edits are extra exhausting. Wish me luck. With further ado, here is this week's diary:

Happy Sunday AuthorThreads.
I end my week with a little humor:

To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism; to steal from many is research.
- Wilson Mizner 1930s

Anyway, I wrote 10 words today! Okay, Bye!👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻

Hello AuthorThreads!
It was a productive day! Much more than on the weekend! I put down 2100 words down and finished chapter 6. And with a little extra wiggled room this afternoon, I sat with chapter 7 and wrote another 500!
2700 words today! Awesome!
I'm excited about chapter 7 because there is a resurrection in it!

Good night AuthorThreads.
After a draggy start to my writing session I finished chapter seven. That's a third day in a row I've written 2500 words!
To tomorrow and chapter 8!

Good evening AuthorThreads.
After a lovely outing this morning I got home just before 2. But I cozied up on the couch and got to 2200 words. 200 of those went to a little detail that I forgot yesterday.
And in that bombshell, I've crossed 24k words in a week! Heeehaw! 🥳

Helllooooo AuthorThreads!
What a day! I think I might have left my brain in bed this morning. My distraction was distracted! 🧠 Geez!
At one point I thought I'll give it a rest and pick it up again tomorrow. But somehow the dribbled kept coming and I put down the 2000 words.
I finished chapter 8 with a 1100 words and then I wrote another 1100 on chapter 9. Not bad for one that went in slo-mo! 2200 words! I'll take it!

Happy Friday AuthorThreads
I neglected my new course and did some extra reading instead.😃
Writing was much more fun and smoother than yesterday! Thank greatness😇!
I finished chapter 9 with 1900 words and got a start on chapter 10 with 400 words.
And then we're back on the weekend. We've got things to do so, we'll see about writing. Fingers crossed for stolen time.

Good evening AuthorThreads!
We had to hit the shops this morning. It went shockingly well!🤣
This afternoon I opened my laptop.
A while later, I read yesterday's offering.
Then there was 70 words. Then a 100.
By the end I've added 750 words to chapter 10!😃 I'll take the win!
Enjoy your day /evening!

Until next time,
Love,
Devorah.

Diary of a Writer #3

Hellooo and welcome to 2025

It is a brand spanking new year and many folks have made up some resolution or other. I'm not one of those folks.
I've been making incremental changes to my life and schedule for the last two years--everything from learning to cooking. I tried (and will try) many things. Those that work gets added, what doesn't work, goes on the chopping block.
But what is most important to me is not to wait. Sure, there are things that I am procrastinating on. And I see it, and I also know why. Some with good reason and others, not so much!😃
Anyway, what is news on the writing front? What have I been up to?
Well, I finished writing the 2nd book of my high fantasy just before Christmas! That was a win because I was worried that I had to try squeezing in writing time into family time. So yay me!
Since then, I've started working on my story outline for book three and finally go that done earlier this week. It is the most hefty outline I've ever done! A 14k chonker of an outline!
On Wednesday, I started with chapter 1 and wrote the first 300 words.
As for my diary, I'll start with the end of outlines and the beginning of my new book for my author's blog.

So commences my seventh book!

This week's entries:
Helllooooo AuthorThreads!
I dunnit! With a last 1700 words I have finally finished my 14 300 word outline. 🥳 It rather feels like a first draft than an outline but it's going to be epic! Tomorrow I want to sit with my maps. That's important so I can make sense of movements. I also hope to start on some character developments. I've got 3 more players in need of personalities.
Now it's time for book and bed!

Hulloooo AuthorThreads!
And so it begins! Today I drew my maps, did some character developments and put down 300 words for book 3 of my high fantasy. 🥳 It's a great start and tomorrow I'll go full tilt!

Good evening AuthorThreads
Chapter 1! Yeah, I sat with it today and added 2100 words. The writing did not exactly flow but I'm not unhappy with the results.
I think (and I'm really going to try) I can write this book in 3 months.
Fingers crossed for that time line!🤞🏻

Good night AuthorThreads.
My writing was a little erratic this afternoon and I had to put in more time tonight.
But with another 700 words, I finished chapter 1 and wrote a 1300 words in chapter 2. However slow, I got to my 2000 word writing goal. I don't know if I'll get to write this weekend but I can hope. It would be great if I could get to chapter 3 before next week. Anyhoo! Have a great day and happy writing.

And I just spent $140 on my ProWritingAid renewal. Sigh, it's a necessity.

And that's it for now. I might work on my chapter or I might just laze in front of the T.V. It's weekend after all.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend and a great week.
And remember, find beauty in every day!

Kind regards,
Devorah

Diary of a Writer #2

Happy Saturday Readers and Writers!

Things are hotting up in this writer’s world as I race to finish my last novel for the year. It is so close and if all goes well, I’ll cross the 100k mark. My story excites me and I would rather sit and write than do anything else.
It was a wonderful week for me. Gifts are piling up under the Christmas tree and the traffic is calming down as holiday goers head off to whatever beach they chose this year.
As you can see in my diary, I’m sticking out feelers to readers and getting my book out in the world. It is a working progress.
And then beautiful feedback for my second novel; Beyond the Veil by Friday.
It was a happy week. But now I’m off to add another chapter to my High Fantasy.
I hope you have a great week and be safe if you are leaving for the holidays.

Diary of a Writer – Week 2

Hullo AuthorThreads.
ALERT1: I sold another book!
ALERT2: I wrote my first blog post on Goodreads!
Other than that, it was another day of growing roots on the couch under my fan. I was distracted, trolling social media and hitting refresh on Amazon, hoping for another sale or a couple of pages read. Come on people, it’s good and funny.
I also spent some time on chapter 28 of my wip and wrote 1500 words. One of my MC’s was suffering the aftereffects of a funny fishing incident.

Good evening AuthorThreads.
Somehow today the writing gods sprinkled good luck on me and I finished writing chapter 28. There I added a 1142 words.
I did this before 10 this morning! Then I went my merry way and spent the day with the family. I came home with lots of leftovers and you know what that means! Bonus writing time! I hit my goal of starting on chapter 29! I put down another 1058 words!
Wow! Just wow! That 2200 words on a Sunday. With a house full of people! Yay me!

Good evening AuthorThreads!
It was an awesome writing day. Besides having had a lovely storm last night, it weather was liveable. And I BROKE Through 91K WORDS!
I added another 2000 words and finished chapter 29!
I’m EXCITED! I’m almost there! The possibility that I might finish this novel before Christmas has got me hopping like a baby goat on a trampoline!
And if you’ve not heard, I’ve published my second novel. It’s available on KU! I’d love to hear what you think.

Hello AuthorThreads!
I had a good day. Spent time with mamma and had ossobuco for the first time.
I did not hit my goal but at a 1800 words, it’s close enough. Chapter 30 is halfway done and tomorrow I’ll try and finish it and maybe get a start on 31!
Hope you have/had a great writing day too.

Hello AuthorThreads.
I had a distracted afternoon. There’s banking on one hand, a customer (don’t) care on the other. Sigh! But Anyhoo! Writing... I finished chapter 30 with a 1300 words and then pushed on (just a little) It was around this time that I was to give up for the day. But chapter 31 has a heading and around 170-ish words.
But any progress!

Good evening AuthorThreads.
I don’t know what happened today, but I’m not complaining. The writing gods watch over me and I nearly knocked chapter 31 out of the park. 2500 words! That’s freakin’ awesome. Considering I started at the table, got fried out, moved to the couch, then there was adulting and cooking and I moved it all outside. So with the bacon carbonara gently simmering in wait for hubby to come home, I sat on my little camp chair and a makeshift table and made every minute count.

Hello AuthorThreads!
Today I got the most wonderful feedback on my Urban Dragon Fantasy: Beyond the Veil. She said she loved it so much for the first time in years she’s inspired to look for more books and read again. My book did that!
And then, on the writing front: I added 500 words to chapter 31, bringing it to a close. Then I sat with chapter 32 and added 2000 words there. 2500 words, two days in a row? Not bad! Not bad at all!

Thank you for reading so far,
Kind regards,
Devorah.

Dairy of a writer #1

"I don't know what I'm doing."
How often do we see and read those words? And they're no less true for me.
So let's kick off with my first blog ever by saying:
I don't know what I'm doing.
What do you say to people? I'm not chatty in general until you put me down behind my laptop, then there seems to be a lifetime's worth of stories that pour out of me.
My solution (for now) is to share my progress in the form of daily updates from my Threads profile, that I will compile once a week.
They tell you what I'm working on, a little humor, a little something about that day and my excitement about milestones. Because, why would I not be excited? I've been advised to shout, so here I am, shouting! I believe, like most authors, that my stories deserve to be read.
Cheers to another first in my life! Here's to blogs and progress! I hope you will join me as I learn and grow into this profession called authorship!

Week 1 (Well, here anyway😃)
Happy Saturday AuthorThreads.
Today was a slow, lazy trickle day. Did a few rounds and only spent a short time working on chapter 25. Put down a whole 500 words. And that's okay. Tomorrow I just might add a few more words or even finish the chapter. Who knows? 😊

Good evening AuthorThreads!
I had a peaceful day behind the laptop.
I put down 2200 words, almost done with chapter 25. But I will get in the last few words tomorrow right before I go at chapter 26. But I had a fun time with chapter 25. Some one got chili sauce down his pants. Revenge was sweet.🤣

Good evening AuthorThreads.
It was a draggy afternoon on the writing front but I did finish my crocheting project.
Chapter 25 is done. There I added 212 words.
Then I started with chapter 26 and put down a 1600 words
I'm a little short in my target today but a 1850 words is not bad. I'm out in the streets again tomorrow so 🤞🏻 that I get enough time to finish chapter 26 and may put a good dent in chapter 27.
Did you know I published a dragon fantasy last week. See the link in the comments.

Good evening AuthorThreads.
Here's my total for the day: 0
I was out with my Mom and only got home around 14h00. We're having a heat wave and by the time I got home I was headachy and exhausted.
I'll take a run at it again tomorrow. Early. Hopefully before the heat hits. But one thing is sure, I'll be growing to my fan for the next few days.🥵

Hello AuthorThreads.
I leave another scorcher behind. I did not reach my writing goal but I finished chapter 26 by adding a 1400 words and a 240 words to chapter 27.
I'm tired. It's the heat but tomorrow we push on. Truth be told, I'm starting to worry that I wont finished this book before the end of the year. Yes, I know it won't be a train smash, but it's a goal I'd love to achieve.

Evening AuthorThreads !
Today was a great writing day. Inspiration struck and I had to backtrack to add a few things to some older chapters. There I added about 400 words. Just little details that will send my story forward later on.
And then I dug in and wrote 2000 words on chapter 27. My team is being taught fishing. But of course I have surprise for one of them.🤣
2400 words and sent my chapter over 83k.

Good evening AuthorThreads .
Heatwave conditions continues in Johannesburg and I'm not all that inspired to move.
I dribbled away at my story and finished chapter 26 with a 1000 words. I even put down another 400 words on chapter 27. Not the target but whatever. I'll spend some more time on it tomorrow.

Until next time, have a great week!
Kind regards,
Devorah.
