Beaconsfield Literary Festival!

Had a great time at this new festival on Saturday, 14th, September!
Though I did wonder if a bolt of lightning might get me for crossing the threshold of a church, to talk about murder... especially when we invaded the pulpit.
Fellow panelists Joanna Wallace (You'd Look Better as a Ghost), Tina Baker (Call Me Mummy) and Hamish Morjaria (The Curse of the Muziris, coming soon) were so much fun! Sometimes a panel just clicks, helped along by able chair, Paul Waters (Blackwater Town). In top photo from left to right: Paul, Joanna, Tina, me, and Hamish. And yes, I am wearing an actual dress! It happens rarely but I LOVE my new boots so may be more frequent now.
Also thanks to Geoff Gudgion (Hammer of Fate), the organiser of this new festival, and able interviewer of Frederick Forsyth. Thanks to Joanna Wallace & her other half for the photos.

THE PATIENT: book birthday today!!

Happy Birthday to me,
Happy Birthday to me,
Happy Birthday The Patient,
Happy Birthday to me!
Did you sing it? I did! Getting to this point - my very first psychological thriller for adults being published, today - has been a long road.
I first scribbled some notes of ideas for it way back in 2021. It evolved, changed, evolved some more, changed genres a bit, evolved again. Winged it's way to many inboxes at different points. Today I'm very happy that it is published by Bookouture - around the world! - in English, in digital, audio or paperback. This is the buy link.
It's exciting and scary that it is out there, that people will read it, hopefully like it. If you do, please, please, please leave reviews, especially on Amazon. It makes a huge difference.

Getting it Covered: The Patient

Ta da! Here it is: the shiny new cover for The Patient. It will be published by Bookouture on 13th February 2024! With that heart on it, it is just in time for Valentine's Day.
It is available for pre-order now, around the world, using this link.
But it isn't a romance. Here is what my publisher has to say about it:
I feel the steady thump of my new heart beating inside me. The surgeon said everything went well. But I can’t stop thinking about my donor: the girl who was killed. Her death saved my life. But now whoever took hers is coming for mine…
I can’t believe it when I learn my donor’s identity. The attack on Flora was all over the news. From my hospital bed I read every article, obsess over every word and soon I feel like I know her: the beautiful girl with flame-coloured hair, adored by everyone around her. Why would anyone hurt someone so perfect?
When Flora’s family reach out to me, I’m unsure. My hands are shaking as I arrive at their grand mansion with its golden stone and sprawling gardens, but they’re warm and welcoming, tears shining in her mother’s eyes as she smiles at me.
She even tells me to take anything I want from Flora’s things, as she can’t bear to go through them herself. I run my fingers over the racks of beautiful designer items, carefully choosing outfits in Flora’s signature yellow, the bright colour complementing the new flush in my cheeks. I think of the years I’ve wasted being ill, and the crushing loneliness I thought would never end. I deserve this.
But then there’s a violent attack on another patient who received one of Flora’s organs. My heart – Flora’s heart – races dangerously fast. Is it a coincidence?
Maybe I’ve made a mistake by stepping into Flora’s life. Has this second chance really saved me? Or has it cost me everything?
