It’s very effective. Hoover knows exactly what she’s doing. But it’s all very YA-ish. I see why it’s spent so long on the bestseller list for the same reason I understand Hallmark movies still get viewers.

This is the longest book I’ve ever read without the assistance of an audiobook. At times, I felt it greatly. At others, I ripped through 80 pages without blinking.

It took my mushy brain a while to adapt to Tolkien’s voice, but once I did, I found this book so delightful. There’s a whimsical charm to it that doesn’t seem to exist anymore, and a hopefulness.
