During Sharon’s writing career she’s lived in a house with a Harry Potter cupboard under the stairs, shared a publisher with the creator of Roger Rabbit, and has taken a trip to Jupiter. Only one of these has been in her imagination.

The first short story she submitted — Silver Apples of the Moon — was accepted by Roadworks Magazine. The editor announced her as “a writer who is going places” and described the story as having “both a Sci-fi and horror element,” and being “strong on characterisation, and quite literary, in terms of style.” Subsequently, she was approached to write all reports and publicity material, including a piece for translation into Braille for The Really Wild Nursery and Arthritis Care Breaking Down the Barriers garden p

March-April Reads 2026

Apologies. I've been so busy writing, I've not had much time for everything else. More on that as soon as it's possible.

Secret Lives of the Dead, Tim Lebbon

I kept picturing the characters younger than they were, but I really liked the concept of this book. It’s well-written and presented in a fun way, though I think I would have preferred a much-darker story because of some especially enjoyab

I was going to say a re-read for me, but I honestly believe this one may have slipped by me to remain buried in my book mountain. I don't remember a word of it, and I can only think that's because I never got round to it, or it's because it's one of ...more

The start of a series, the first book introduces many enjoyable characters, magical creatures, strange organisations, and throws in several surprises. I found this to be cosy fun rather than laugh out loud funny, but I’ve bought the second book to se ...more

A more involved mystery. Entertaining as usual, but the outcome with James Lacey left me blinking. Great fun for the book, but odd and difficult to believe as I felt it was out of character. Read as impeccably as ever.

A re-read for me because I have several of the books in the series when they first came out and I’ve never read through them. An excellent blend of zombie fiction with political thriller action. Oddly, the books can work for those who favour either t ...more

A re-read for me, and one that read almost like a book of two halves. I enjoyed almost all of it, but expected a different outcome. Koontz has been accused of getting too religious in his books over time, though if that’s what he wishes to write, tha ...more

I’d heard the author’s work was worth checking out, I picked up a couple of her books, this being the first I’ve read. The style is of its time, written in the 70s, so there’s a little more tell than show, which is not so preferred by publishers, edi ...more

A reread for me as part of an attempted book clearance. Relentless is an author’s nightmare ramped up and far worse than an obsessed fan, but an obsessed reviewer. Sounds simple enough, but we soon learn that it’s far from what we first believe to be ...more

I bought this because it contains a story by Adam Nevill, one of my favourite authors, so no surprise that out of the five stories I thought his was the best, and I know I’ll read it more than once. Maybe more of a vision than a story, but one that p ...more
