It's no big secret that I listen to a lot of music when writing, but the other day I heard a song that actually made me think about the process of crafting a story. One of the biggest rules of writing is "show, don't tell." Nothing kills a story quicker than hearing some random voice tell you what happened rather than living through it with the same person you've invested your precious time with. Unfortunately, this is easier said than done. I get it. It's an easy trap to fall into.

Voice might be the most important part of any book. It's incredibly difficult to describe, but so memorable when done right. (see Nathan Bransford's post)

To compound on the importance of voice, we have first person POV. While this style has become wildly popular for most YA genres, it can be particularly challenging. In first person POV the author needs that voice they worked so hard to perfect come out of their teenage protag's mouth. Oh, and it has to be believable. Are kids still saying...

I've gotten a lot of questions regarding Saving Seven's cover. The artist's name is Kristi Collora and she's awesome. I contacted her because I didn't want a computer generated cover, I wanted something a little different.

I've seen some of her paintings and I knew she'd come up with something unique that tied into the story, rather than have a random face splashed across the front.

After reading the book, she created a truly unique cover. My favorite part is the font which looks a little like ...
