I grew up in rural Minnesota with a passion for reading and creative writing,

In the mid-1980s, a job at a small-town weekly newspaper set the stage for my 30-year career as an award-winning reporter and editor. Just before the turn of the century, I moved to Michigan, won a few journalism awards, spent a few years in public relations, got mixed up in online news, and–during National Novel Writing Month–revised a 20-year-old, abandoned manuscript that became Above the Fold.

At the tail end of the COVID-19 pandemic, I moved back to Minnesota to write and edit and publish. And then print journalism called one more time.
