Shannon Barracato is a writer of literary, transgressive, and dark fiction. She has lived abroad, traveled widely, jumped out of an airplane, and driven a race car. She has worked in film and television.

"ANTICHRIST SUPERTASTER is a powerful book, so original, filled with both wonder and horror, hope and fear. It's a funny, moving, scathing commentary - shades of MAUS and JOJO RABBIT, the bastard love child of Chuck Palahniuk and Irvine Welsh."
- Richard Thomas, Bram Stoker, Shirley Jackson, and Thriller Award finalist

"Ally Forman, a young woman with Down syndrome and a burnt-out guardian angel, wins the lottery in this unusual work from horror scribe Giglio (Revival House). Twenty-four-y

Here's a rough draft of my query - it's probably the best way I can tell you what it's about:

Have you heard the urban legend about the Suicide Soldiers? Melanie Barrett started it at a birthday party when she was ten years old. This is an excerpt:

“They say the Soldiers are ghosts of those who needed help with their own suicides, and, so, they are damned to making people on Earth kill themselves, pushing them over the edge into oblivion when they’re too afraid to do it alone…So, if you say ‘I’ll kill myself,’ you’d better be ready to die because, if you say it like you mean it, a Soldier will come for you, too.”

Flynn Decker is Melanie’s personal Soldier. He gave Melanie those words after her aunt’s death marked her as a future suicide. As Flynn, who shot himself after perpetrating a horrific crime, follows her through life, waiting for her to utter those magic words, ‘I’ll kill myself,’ something happens—something wonderful but forbidden and unheard of in Suicide Parish: he falls in love.

Can happily ever after exist in suburban Hell for a couple of outcasts under the watchful eyes of a panel of power-hungry Archangels? Will the Archangel of Suicide Parish lose his position over Flynn’s ability to feel love, thereby losing his chance to rule the entire underworld? How hard will Flynn fight for the love he couldn’t have in life?

STRANGE AS ANGELS, my fourth novel, is an 8X,XXX word dark fantasy tale that takes place between the years 1975 and 2014. (less)

“Tension, stress, bullshit, whichever you prefer to call it. It is a demon with many names.”
S.S. Michaels, Revival House

“The males are enormous, and once gestation is complete they rip through your flesh and consume you, still alive and screaming, somehow extending your life through unknowable, damnable chemical processes before fully dislodging and escaping the ruined housing of your body. They circle us -- men, boys, and five other women -- in waters teeming with tiny female elver, waiting for the time their brethren no longer require our bodies as incubators.”
Shannon Giglio, Ice Picks: Most Chilling Stories from the Ice Plaza

“She had awoken one night to see a dark figure standing over her bed. She’d thought it was her dad, at first, until he’d slammed the knife into her belly.”
