What I Saw Today

I brought my grandson to school today; he’s in his second week of half-day kindergarden. We stood in the air lock waiting to go into his classroom, surrounded by kids laughing and gabbing. We were next to a bench piled with boxes. A mom came through the doors carrying another box like the ones on Read More

Walking Over Rocks

I am so very blessed to live in the most beautiful area. The foothills of the Rocky Mountains. All around me is majestic beauty as well as many businesses that begin with “Front Range,” “Foothills,” or some form of the actual elevation. We live on a school campus, and the campus includes a track. Last Read More

Book Review: Saving Detroit by Michelle Bolanger

I love to read. I read a lot. Most genres. Rarely will a book, after that initial book coma, leave me haunted. That is what Saving Detroit did. I could not shake the plights of the  characters. Meet Luke Kelso, young up-and-coming crew chief for his father’s successful race team. He has everything the world Read More

Angels Unaware Freebie Today!

I have always been fascinated and curious about supernatural things; at times, I confess, this didn’t always point me in the right directions.  Angels have always held a special intrigue for me, especially as I delved into the Bible. One of my all time favorite movies is It’s A Wonderful Life, where clumsy angel Clarence Read More

Lakeville Books pin

Become acquainted with Samantha Young and her family in the Lakeville series.

Seasons of a Life: Time passes with little regard of human perspective. At times painfully slow and often it slips past more swiftly than we’d like. Sammie Young is a testimony to the changing of life’s many seasons. As life deals it’s harsh blows, she stands strong. Now, with two of her five children left at home, change whizzes toward her at the speed of light. Frequently down, but never beaten, Sammie steps out in faith to face the new and exciting seasons awaiting her family.

Sunnie’s Rainbow: Sunshine Young has moved back to Lakeville. Her life has changed and she’s making a new life in her hometown. A fender bender begins a whole new chapter in Sunnie’s uncomplicated life. Complications abound as Sunnie struggles to truly put behind past hurts and open her heart to the Lord’s way.

Restoration: Two Brothers, two paths.

“I know what’s going on. What are you going to do to make it right?”

Jude barked out a laugh…he was prepared for every argument. His stance declared he would have none of what Silas had to say.

“Who says we’re not right?”

Praying for the right words to be spoken and a fertile heart to hear them, Silas reached for his brother, plunging into the discussion he knew they needed to have. “Jude, you know the right thing. I don’t need to spout off a list of Scripture. What can I do?”

“Mind your business.” Jude shook off the hand on his arm. “That’s the first thing. No, that’s the ONLY thing.”

“My brother walking in sin isn’t my business?”

“We’re not kids anymore; you can stop looking out for me, it’s getting old. So, mind your business and go home. I don’t need Jiminy Cricket hanging around the door…”

“Jiminy Cricket? How about the Holy Ghost? Don’t be a fool, Jude. You’re not hiding anything from Jesus.”

“You’re boring me, Si. I pray every night and I haven’t missed church. All is well on that front. Now, go away.”

Silas adopted a stubborn set to his face. The fabric of their relationship, worn to tatters from recent strains, tore apart.

The impasse reached could destroy their close bond.

*By The Hand of His Grace: Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee. Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Autumn Young Pyoriasaari never imagined the words to the timeless hymn would become her life’s largest challenge. A diagnosis of breast cancer will test the promise that faith will be enough to carry her through, no matter which turn the trial takes.

As Autumn struggles with the monster every woman dreads facing, will her moments and days be filled with fear and doubt or flow with endless praise? She learns to lean more heavily on the family that surrounds her and walks the road alongside her.

Book Review: Silent Sabotage by Susan Sleeman

Silent Sabotage coverThis 5th installment in Susan Sleeman’s First Responders series, to release August 1st, is another suspense-filled page turner. Emily Graves has given up everything to help her aunt, suffering from Alzheimer’s, build her business back up, a run down bead-and-breakfast, where Emily was raised. A series of small accidents, blamed on Aunt Birdie’s declining health, is only the beginning to the terror about to enter Emily’s life. An active shooter, with a deep grudge against Emily, introduces her to Deputy Archer Reed, member of the First Response Squad. The situation is resolved, but Emily still needs protection and Archer is determined to be certain she is safe from whomever is continuing to threaten her. An attraction builds between these two very independent characters, and they must learn to be open and trust each other in the face of the escalating danger and attacks on Emily’s life. They both realize that they must return to their faith in God before they can have faith in each other.

From the beginning, when Emily becomes an unwitting target of an active shooter situation, to the climax of who is behind the attacks on her life and her aunt’s business, Susan weaves her usual and exciting brand of mystery, suspense, and relationships. I found this book to be the best of the series thus far, and perhaps that’s because I’ve come to love these characters as real people. They aren’t surface, expendable characters, they are deep and warm and you feel every pain that they do.

If you are looking for a good suspense, with elements of faith and clean romance, I completely recommend this book, and indeed, this whole series. It will be available on August 1. Till then, read the other four, you won’t be sorry!

Confession: one of the things I enjoy about being an author is getting to meet other authors and having the fun of “pre-publication” reads. They are always inspiring and so many of the authors that I have been privileged to meet are such humble, sweet servants of the Lord, who willingly share their experience and projects. I’m very happy to say that Susan Sleeman is one of them, and that I can refer to her as my friend. Here’s a great little interview with her on the Author’s Blog of Southern Writers Magazine about how she creates and writes her villains.
