Born in the US, Ry Herman is now a permanent Scottish resident. Their debut novel, the queer supernatural romcom Love Bites, was published by Jo Fletcher Books in July of 2020. Ry is bisexual and genderqueer.

Their most recent book, This Princess Kills Monsters, is a retelling of “The Twelve Huntsmen”, one of the Grimm Brothers’ weirdest fairy tales. It takes that tale’s jilted, trouser-wearing fiancée, her eleven identical crossdressing doppelgangers, a talking lion, and of course, the princess, on an extravagant, fantastical quest to save a kingdom, subvert destiny, and fall in love with the perfectly right wrong person.

Ry has worked at a variety of jobs, including submissions editor, theatre technician, and one job which could best be des

THE RAVEN SCHOLAR by Antonia Hodgson

After twenty-four years of peace, Bersun the Brusque must end his reign. In the dizzying heat of mid-summer, seven contenders compete to replace him. They are exceptional warriors, thinkers, strategists—the best of the best. Then one of them is murdered. It falls to Neema Kraa, the emperor’s

“But even if I found somewhere to hide, how long would it be before my stepmother showed up with a clever disguise and a shiny red apple? I’d probably end up lying in a glass coffin until the trump of doom. Or at best, I’d find myself engaged to a different prince. One with a tendency toward necrophilia. The coffin kissers are the worst.”
Ry Herman, This Princess Kills Monsters: The Misadventures of a Fairy-Tale Stepsister: A Novel

“Your cat,’ Ari tells her, ‘keeps dropping on my head.’ ‘Oh,’ Chloë says. ‘Yeah, I’m sorry. He does that. Usually only with people he really likes, though.’ ‘It’s amazing! Why – no, what I mean is, how? How does he do that?’ ‘He perches on the door lintels, waiting for someone to come through.’ ‘Amazing,’ he repeats, peering at the narrow beam atop the doorway to the kitchen. ‘They’re only, like, half an inch wide.’ ‘He’s very graceful.’ ‘Cats are such fantastic creatures, don’t you think?’ He continues to stare at the lintel, as if willing it to divulge its secrets.”
Ry Herman, Love Bites: A laugh-out-loud queer romance with a paranormal twist

“I once read somewhere that all cats are little Buddhists. They attempt to reduce your attachment to material possessions by destroying them.”
