Robert Louis DeMayo is a native of Hollis, New Hampshire, U.S.A., but has lived in many corners of the planet. He traveled to nearly a hundred countries before he was thirty, crossing many of them overland. He began writing at the age of twenty when he left his job as a biomedical engineer to explore the world. His extensive journaling during his travels inspired five of his novels and far-reaching work for the travel section of The Telegraph, out of Nashua, New Hampshire, as well as the Hollis Times. He is a member of The Explorers Club and chair of its Southwest Chapter.

His undying hunger for exploration led to a job marketing for Eos Study Tours, a company that serves as a travel office for non-profit organizations and offers dives to th

I was fanatical about traveling when I was young, and have more stories in my back pocket than I could ever write, and I'm a huge fan of history and I find researching and writing books that tap into the past to be hugely satisfying.

I do stall out sometimes on how to write a scene, and when that happens I go hiking until it sorts itself out.(less)

Up until that point, I'd believed I would be a bio-medical engineer, installing medical equipment for my father's company. When I started exploring the middle east and northern Africa in the 80s, I was completely overwhelmed and didn't know how I could possibly stop. During my first time abroad, I went through 40 countries, was gone a year-and-a-half, and ran out of money after the first few months. I got jobs along the way--and starved when I had to. Anything to keep traveling. Somewhere along the way, I discovered that the only way I could process everything was to write it down. From then on, when I traveled, I took multiple journals which I wrote in constantly. I eventually began submitting travel articles and features, and soon after began working on novels. Writing and traveling go hand in hand for me. The stories allow me to still feel the road long after I've returned home. And like Mowgli said, "I'll do anything to stay in the jungle."(less)

New Novel

Whenever I ask someone to spend money on a novel or eBook I feel a little guilty; I’ve lived on a dollar a day—and less. But I love telling stories, and really look forward to sharing them. For this reason, I try to balance things out by telling folks how they can get my work for free: The Sirens of Oak Creek will be featured as a Goodreads Giveaway, where ten winners will receive a signed book, a Read more of this blog post »
