Seymour was born during an air-raid on London in 1941. After the war, his family moved to Mauritius, where his father taught him to swim and sail a dinghy. After three years, they moved to Canada where some time later in the 70s a good friend let him sail aboard and even briefly take command of a 50 foot Nova Scotia schooner.
Notwithstanding these character forming events, Seymour acquired three degrees in English Literature and taught at universities on Canada's east and west coasts, and in Ontario. He also wrote and edited a great deal of very dull material for government and industry as a civil servant, and as a free-lance communication consultant.
