Today is #NationalDogDay, which is a great time to mention that I wrote a book with Dr. Gary Weitzman of the San Diego Humane Society. It’s called FETCH! and it teaches kids specific skills their dog may be able to master as well as the science behind it.

My journalism background continues to lead me down interesting paths as a nonfiction author, especially as I pursue more STEM titles. This Natio

“Mindfulness Tip: When you’re outside, take time to notice things that really call to you. Maybe it’s the color of a flower, the smell of freshly cut grass, or even an ant crawling on the sidewalk. Savor those things that you’re drawn to!”
Aubre Andrus, Project You: More Than 50 Ways to Calm Down, De-Stress, and Feel Great

“For just one hour, turn off all of your electronic devices, including the TV, and put your phone in a drawer. What will you do with a screen-free, unconnected hour? That’s up to you. It might be difficult at first, but rising to the challenge can be so satisfying.”
Aubre Andrus, Project You: More Than 50 Ways to Calm Down, De-Stress, and Feel Great

“If you had to pick a favorite place where you live, what would it be? It could be an inspiring place like a beautiful park or a lookout point. Or it could be a library, a café, or even your own front yard. Once you’ve settled on a special spot, bring sketching, writing, or painting supplies to this place. Make sure you have a comfortable spot to sit, then observe your surroundings. Notice the details, from the smells and sounds to the emotions you experience, as you sit. Now try to re-create this space in the creative medium of your choice — a story, poem, drawing, song, comic book, short movie — whatever you want. Express yourself via your chosen art medium. It doesn’t have to be perfect. When you’re done, challenge yourself to share your work with at least one person.”
