She has written about education, crime and immigration for the New York Times, Newsweek, the Atlantic, the Washington Post, the Philadelphia Inquirer, Newsday, Washington Monthly, Marie Claire, the American Prospect, among others. She is a 2009 recipient of the Spencer Fellowship in Education Reporting at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and received her master’s degree from New York University as a Henry M.
