Lisa Solomon is a studio artist that moonlights as a college professor and graphic designer. She received her BA in Art Practice from UC Berkeley in 1995 and her MFA from Mills College in 2003. She is an adjunct professor at San Francisco State University, and has also taught at other Bay Area Colleges including UC Berkeley, Mills College, CCA, and Cal State East Bay.

She often fuses "wrong" things together--recontextualizing their original purposes, and incorporating materials that question the line between ART and CRAFT.

Do Muslim Women Need Saving? by Lila Abu-Lughod

“You would be wise not to underestimate the power of neutrals. Sometimes they can be misunderstood as boring, but where would fashion be without the little black dress or the crisp white shirt? The truth is, we wouldn’t be able to create our richest, darkest colors without black and there would be no pastel goodness without white. Not to mention that when you study neutrals themselves along the spectrum from warm to cool tones, there are literally hundreds of tints and shades to consider. Neutrals are beloved because they go with everything. They mix well with each other, but more importantly, they mix beautifully with every other color.”

“Interestingly enough, the color yellow is known to activate our memories, so perhaps coloring that yellow sun gets embedded into our brains more than the green trees.”
