Early on in the interview, he told me about his childhood and mentioned the mission school he attended. I asked him what a mission school was because I had never heard of them. He explained how he and his sister were abducted from a playground and taken to a mission school by adults, who worked for what is the equivalent of today’s Child Protective Services. This was in the 1940's. He wasn't given the opportunity to say good-bye to his family. He spent over nine years at the school without knowing if his parents ever knew where he was or what had happened to him. I found the mission school so fascinating and wanted to know if his experience was unique, or had other children experienced the same kind of abduction. Of course after researching and interviewing I found how tragic the story really was. (less)
