Based on the writing advice of Steven Pressfield ( https://www.goodreads.com/StevenPress... ), I try to write nearly everyday and don't care if it's good or not. If it's bad, I can always throw it away. Pressfield views writer's block as for amateurs -- meaning, it's an excuse. And I think that's generally true, although there are clearly times in life when things are so difficult that it's hard to write. But those can also be the best times to write. It's all a matter of perspective, and I would argue, prayer.

From Leo Babtua's The Power of Less ( https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... ), I learned that having a rhythm where you prioritize your creative activity (especially in the morning) is also critical.

I live by these principles and it works.(less)

There is something about the process of words going on paper that helps me process. Even in the remote regions of India, way out of my comfort zone, it was the process of writing in a journal -- and then making that part of my prayer life -- that helped me the most. The best part of writing is how it changes my relationship with God -- how it helps me gain intimacy with my maker. It is then is really fruitful to hear from readers how my effort to process my thoughts has helped them. Ultimately, I write because I am passionate about truth -- and seeing that truth change me and then others makes it all worth it.(less)

To All Who Have Engaged with My Content Over the Years, Thank You

To all who have engaged with my content over the years, thank you. Due to my full-time commitment to chaplaincy, I have stepped away from writing and social media. Thus, I will not be responding to comments, author questions, or messages here on Goodreads. As a parting gift, I have catalogued my content—much of which is available for free—at JohnDBarry.com.

“we seem to lose the ability to hear God: We’re listening for what we want to hear, not what we need to hear.”
John D. Barry, When the Bible is Complicated: Answers to Perplexing Questions

“Without the Corinthians cutting ties with darkness, only pain will come to them and others. Jesus has a better way, if only they can see it and embrace it. This context explains all of 2 Corinthians. When Paul says, “Do not be unequally yoked,” he means first, that we should not associate with believers who don’t actually live for Jesus, and second, that engaging in any sort of intimate relationship or partnership with someone who does not let Jesus be the center of their lives will ultimately lead to our demise (2 Cor 6:14). We must cut ties with whatever or whomever leads us to darkness. Paul”
John D. Barry, Cutting Ties with Darkness: 2 Corinthians

“It’s easy to be deceived, but when we are following Christ with everything we have, it’s much harder for Satan to find a stronghold.”
John D. Barry, Cutting Ties with Darkness: 2 Corinthians
