A Third Award!
As an author, I have to say that nothing makes my heart sing more than when someone reads my book and likes it well enough to give it high praise. And getting the stamp of approval by an expert is the icing on the icing on the icing on the cake. My memoir, "Teaching in the Dark" recently came in as a Page Turner Finalist for Best Debut Novel, Best Memoir, and Best Cover. So it's in the running! I will find out sometime in November if my book wins a Gold, Silver, or Bronze award.
Adding to my joy is the book tour I am embarking on soon -- October 19-27, from Seattle to Nome, to Shishmaref, and then to Juneau. All information and updates are posted on my website: https://genetsimone.com

Two Awards for Teaching in the Dark!
Dear Readers -- past, present, and future -- I am so happy to announce that my memoir, "Teaching in the Dark," has won both the Nonfiction Authors Association Award (Gold!) and also an International Impact Award. I am so absolutely THRILLED that both readers and professional reviewers (Clarion, The Prairies Book Review, BookTrib) are recognizing my intentions to describe not only my own teaching experiences, but also the beauty and wildness of the village where it occurred many years ago. As I quote in the beginning, "These are not my stories, they are OUR stories. They are waiting to be told" (Anne Parker, Stories From the Origin). So THANK YOU for your careful reading and comments! I'll keep you posted about other plans to share my book this year, including a trip back to Shishmaref!
