“Rather than fall completely under his spell, she huffed, “I should like to see you submissively fond of your wife. Given your professed opinions, I cannot expect much fondness from you as a husband, can I?”
“Fondness, yes. Ridiculous, romantic, calf-eyed love, no, you may not,” he confirmed. “But when I am fond, Bess, I am very fond.”

“I shall be much obliged to you, cousin, if you will refrain from telling my sisters that she has a face like a horse!’
‘But, Charles, no blame attaches to Miss Wraxton! She cannot help it, and that, I assure you, I have always pointed out to your sisters!’
‘I consider Miss Wraxton’s countenance particularly well-bred!’
‘Yes, indeed, but you have quite misunderstood the matter! I meant a particularly well-bred horse!’
'You mean, as I am perfectly aware, to belittle Miss Wraxton!'
'No, no! I am very fond of horses!' Sophy said earnestly.
Before he could stop himself he found that he was replying to this. 'Selina, who repeated the remark to me, is not fond of horses, however, and she—' He broke off, seeing how absurd it was to argue on such a head.
'I expect she will be, when she has lived in the same house with Miss Wraxton for a month or two,' said Sophy encouragingly.”

Thank you, bless you, I am your biggest fan, Jill.I will review this frequently just to laugh. You've made my day, week, month, possibly year!
Jill wrote: "Are you reading anything atm, M?"I thought about reading On Dublin Streets. Urp.
I'm considering Outlander, but it's a time commitment to savor it. I think I'm going to love it.
I might read a caz reco: The Parfit Knight by Stella Riley, 1980's, OOP pbs, now coming out via author as ebooks. Blurb also sounded v. good.
I saw you're reading a v.popular South Dakota author writing CRs with cowboys (Tied up or something, Lorelei Somebody) with gazillions of 4-5 star reviews. Can't wait to hear what you think. These gals are so prolific, I'm astonished and impressed. S. Young (50 Shades of Dublin author), too. Amazing reception. It must be such a thrill for them!
I just got The Rake's Retreat, Nancy Butler in the mail, OOP pb. Also a Mary Balogh Notorious Rake or Lord. It may be the week of the rakes for me...What's next for you after the cowboy CR?
I have a thought @ a CR (slightly satiric) but I want to run it by you via email, not here.

Ditto, there are so many titles by great authors, it's nice to have a few discerning reviewers to cut through the clutter to the really good stuff.
Hi Miranda, so happy to be friends! I have to tell you how much I love reading your reviews (in addition to how much I loved your book), so looking forward to seeing them in my updates. :)Happy New Year!
