Though Sadie does write on occasion, she is predominantly a reader. She hails from the Southeastern United States, has twice lived in Northwestern England, and now resides in the American Midwest.

She holds a BSc in Anthropology/Comparative Religion, and masters' in International Criminology and Social Change, and is currently working on a Ph.D. in Public and Social Policy. She loves local coffee shops, geek culture, everything bookish, and tea (steaming with milk and sweet iced). She is married, with two daughters and only moderately neurotic border collie/Australian shepherd and Australian Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog mixes.

On a side note, she uses GR and her shelves to keep track of books she's read, hopes to read, has been asked to re

Book Review: Shattered Kingdom, by Angelina J. Steffort

I think I won this copy of Angelina J. Steffort‘s Shattered Kingdom. I do not recall where from; however. Unfortunately, this is a book I found on my shelf that I had forgotten about. It’s a new year, and I’m setting a goal to be better about reading my physical books, and this is a perfect example of why.

Well, using the same avatar makes it easy. :-) I saw you when I friended Ed. Thrilled to see what you read...ok, I didn't mean that to sound as stalkery as it did.

Scarletine Thanks for finding me! :-)

I'm all for snarky friends! Keeps life interesting. (And yes, a fabulous and should be oft used phrase it was.)

Of course yes! By all means. The book deserves to be in print and I'd be delighted to have contributed even the few small words. The groups can be addictive, be careful. :-)

Harv Griffin Hey, Sadie!

Finally getting around to a Print On Demand version of DAUGHTER MOON. I plan to put a slightly abridged version of your review of MOON on the back cover. Please say yes? My graphic artist wants fewer review words; I want tinier review words: but I think she's going to win. Hope you are doing well. In other news, I finally joined a GoodReads group: something about Time Travel . . . Cheers! @hg47

Wow, that sounds right up my alley. You're right, The Weeping Empress might fall on the edge of the category. I think your Emily Kane novels do too. I'm definitely going to try and find a good translation or two and look into it further. Wikipedia had a list of the most well known books, but not if they are in English. But look:

http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/4...
http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/4...

Goodreads has two small groups of Wuxia readers. I'd bet they could point us in the right direction. At the very least they have bookshelves. Thank for sharing. I'm a little excited now.

Jacques Antoine Hi, Sadie. A colleague of mine recently told me about "wuxia", which apparently is a genre of Chinese martial arts fiction. It's usually about a heroic figure who protects helpless innocents.

Anyway, as soon as I heard this, it struck me that The Weeping Empress is like wuxia, though Muhjah and Senka strain the type a bit. I suppose my books are a more distant cousin of wuxia. One thing the genre is known for is gripping descriptions of fight scenes.

I thought I might read a few to try to learn something from them, especially about choreographing the fight scenes. The trick is finding readable translations. But I've heard that one or two have been translated well recently.
