Ramesh was a voracious reader from his middle school years. When some of his naughty peers called him a bookworm, he called them earthworms. He used to walk to a public library every evening after school, check out a couple of books, typically one fiction and one nonfiction, then read them at home in a couple of days, return them to the library and check some other two books out. He narrated the stories he read to boys and girls of the neighborhood every night. They loved him for that and he enjoyed being called a good storyteller. He maintained this routine for years until he graduated from high school at the age of fifteen.

He turned to philosophy and taught himself that dreaded subject, avidly reading a hardcore philosophy book, almost one each day. He changed his philosophy as he moved from one great philosopher to next, until he formulated his own philosophy after about ten years of eating, drinking and breathing philosophy books.

Of course philosophy is not a great way to make a good living, so Ramesh took his father's advice to the heart and entered the highly prestigious civil service. But he quit and worked to obtain his Ph.D. diploma that said "Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy." As professor of philosophy Ramesh had to and loved to read hundreds of books from which he selected appropriate ones to teach his students. Ramesh taught a breath-taking variety of courses in Eastern and Western philosophy and religions, besides courses related to music, meditation, financial management and business ethics. All this required reading, prescribing and teaching hundreds of books. He loved to teach, for example, Intro to Philosophy, a course he has taught more than thirty-five times. But almost each time he taught it with a different perspective and with different books. He said he got bored teaching the same books in a repeat course.

Born on a Friday the thirteenth, Ramesh has had a richly divergent life and even a more richly divergent thought that he has gathered from reading, studying and teaching hundreds of books by great authors of all times. He absolutely loves to share it all through his books. He has published nine books. He writes about spirituality with a global reach.

Professor Ramesh N. Patel is a Resident Scholar at Antioch College where he taught philosophy and religion for twenty-six years before retiring. Antioch University conferred upon him the title of Emeritus Professor of Philosophy and Religion when he retired.

His first book, called Philosophy of the Gita, was written for scholars. Ramesh has since stepped down from the ivory tower to make his thought accessible to the general reader. Make it the serious and thoughtful general reader! He has focused on writing about spirituality. All his books are nonfiction, devoted to helping concerned general readers to think things through for themselves to enhance and deepen the quality of their life. Yes, one book, called Spiritual Stories, is fiction. Remember, Ramesh the good storyteller!

Ramesh's writings dive deep into spiritual world-views and life-paths, always showing reasons supporting the ideas laid out. Not only that, Ramesh offers a diversity of thoughts in terms of alternatives drawn from world religions and Eastern as well as Western philosophy, current and historic. This world-wide range goes a long way to offer a wide spectrum of options and choices to all who want to explore and consider major alternatives available to enrich and deepen their life's journey.
