Harper Ross writes speculative fiction novels set in New England that explore friendship, family, forgiveness, and the quiet magic of everyday life. Her debut novel, THE UNWRITTEN RULES OF MAGIC, released in January 2026 with St. Martin’s Press. The novel was a finalist for the CBS Club Calvi Book Club and was featured by People magazine as one of ten “buzzy” debuts to read for Women’s History Month. When she’s not writing, she’s likely singing off-key in her car, dancing in her kitchen with her family, or walking her dog, Mo. She welcomes the opportunity to connect with readers via Instagram or email.

Be warned, it's a tear-jerker! I loved the Vermont setting and the bold premise. This author excels at tackling heartbreaking topics with enough humor and hope to keep the story from feeling oppressive. Four points of view, all with a need for forgiv ...more

Fun premise and protagonist. Humor galore. This is a very cute and romantic story about a woman reinventing herself and trying to mete out justice in an unjust world. The entire cast of characters makes this one complete.

I read it because of the hype. Well-written, but just the wrong fit for me. I can see why it was popular, and I do think it forces conversation around some important aspects of women in society, marriage, and sex.
