Next Thursday sees the publication of the first of what I hope will be a series of books on music and other aspects of culture. It’s been a wrench to pull away from fiction and concentrate on narrative nonfiction, but, once I realised that this is still storytelling, I got used to the idea. This punk book brought a major realisation to me – that these books can be fun and very satisfying to write. The Goon Show book I’m writing at the moment is also much fun & satisfying. So hopefully these books will do well, and a new chapter will open for me.
