Headline: Expert Insight Meets Human Imagination

Walson Lee stands at the intersection of high-stakes technology and the timeless art of storytelling. A retired Artificial Intelligence (AI) expert from a global tech leader, Walson spent decades at the forefront of the digital revolution. Today, he uses that technical foundation to explore the most pressing question of the silicon age: What happens when machines begin to feel?

Whether writing speculative fiction or technical frameworks, Walson’s work is defined by the belief that as technology becomes more complex, our humanity becomes more precious.

Hi Richard,

Thank you for these great questions — and apologies for the late reply. I’m still getting up to speed with the Goodreads Author Q&A features, so I appreciate your patience.

The question of "What makes us human?" is far from an exercise in futility—in fact, it is one of the central themes in my book, “Echo of the Singularity: Awakening.” In my view, what makes us unique are elements like empathy, love, self-reflection, mercy, and the depth of our friendships. These are the qualities that define our experience even as we face an increasingly technological future.

Regarding your fascinating second question about whether these traits are hard-wired: I tend to take a middle ground. I believe a significant portion of our capacity for mercy and empathy is hard-wired—an inheritance passed down from our parents and ancestors through evolution. However, I am convinced that environmental factors—such as education, social norms, and personal experience—play an equally vital role in how those traits are expressed or developed.

It's a complex balance of nature and nurture, and one that becomes even more interesting when we consider how these "human" traits might eventually be mirrored or challenged by artificial intelligence.

AI’s Economic & Social Impacts — Why These Questions Matter Now

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been writing about AI safety and frontier model developments. But this time, I stepped back and looked at something broader — the economic and social impacts of AI that are already unfolding around us.

These shifts are affecting industries, jobs, inequality, and even how we think about the future. Based on the early reactions, it’s clear that many readers are feeling t Read more of this blog post »
