Yes the light is a very important and often cited element
About 95 percent of those I interviewed saw it. It seems to be a brilliant light but one that does not hurt the eyes. I did want to answer one imprtant issue: almost everyone I interviewed inGLIMPSING HEAVEN actually died. They weren't in other words near death but dead. So whether or not the light they saw was an actual phenomenon has no relevance. They weren't here any more. They had passed over the border(less)

But to answer your first question: Death travelers, as I call them in my book, "Glimpsing Heaven," are a lonely group. This is because most people who are resuscitated through CPR or other means, remember nothing about their time among the dead. We do not know why that is. Dr Sam Parnia, an emergency room physician, has hypothesized that perhaps it is because of swelling within the brain as a result of trauma, which might impair memory.
So those who do remember their travels on their return to life are discounted or considered mentally unbalanced. Modern western society demands proof -- and those who return from the dead with memories of fascinating adventures simply have no proof, no physical proof that can assuage the scoffers.(less)

GLIMPSING HEAVEN CONTROVERSY

Well I guess anyone who writes about the probability of enduring consciousness after death is going to get a lot of flak.

Here in the interests of full disclosure is some of it -- on Natl Geographic's own website of all places...

“I asked my grandmother if the light was God,” Pam recalled. Rie laughed at the suggestion. “Oh no, Baby,” said Rie. “God is not the light. The light is what happens when God breathes.” She knew then, Pam would say later, that she was standing in the breath of God.”
