"The World of Karel Čapek’s Rossum’s Universal Robots: A Survey of Global Stagings and Media Adaptations" ... is the title that my publisher McFarland just made official.

Time to announce a new book that I’m doing for Bear Manor Media.
It’s working title is “The High Treason Dossier”.
The goal is to publish as much primary source material as possible on the 1928 play, on the 1929 silent film and on the talkie (also from ’29). One of the highlights will be a full publication of the play which I was lucky enough to get possession of a couple of decades ago. It’s still up in the air concerning the original material that will be included on the films but I think there will be some good stuff.
Then there are a few tidbits on
- possible plans to perform the play in the United States
- where the play really stands as a statement on pacifism,
- the film(s) as science fiction considering the technology at the time
- the film(s) in comparison to classics like Metropolis & Things to Come.
I’m especially beating the bushes on international showings and detailed censorship considerations to pepper things up. I’m discovering that effort will require a surprisingly large net to find everything.
There will also be biographies on the participants. These include – but are not limited to - Maurice Elvey, Raymond Massey, James Whale and the ever-unique playwright Noel Pemberton Billing.
I’m still in the early stages but I think that I can get it done by next February. Who knows what else will turn up until then?

_A Brief Karel Čapek Biography and Some Notes on His Key Writings is written... CHECK
_Chapter on Early Fictional Mechanical Men and Artificial Humans is written... CHECK
_Illustrations Gathered and Captions written… CHECK
_Bibliography written for each Chapter… CHECK

“Clean-up” work still to do before I am in a position to submit the manuscript to McFarland Publishers by the Mid-August due date:

_Type in final revisions scribbled on printouts
_adapt things to the Chicago’s Notes and Bibliography system (gulp!)
_one last spelling and grammar check
_combine the chapters into one document
_re-arrange the endnotes
_merge the bibliographies
_tighten up chapter cross references
_double space everything
_place illos. on pages & construct List of Illustrations page
_decide on a cover
_build Table of Contents
_build Index

To be honest, I don’t even know what some of these tasks will take or even what order I should tackle them. But I’ve got 6 or 7 weeks to figure it all out.

So, lately I've been enlisting my AI to review some of my write-ups. Posed with this question:

I think maybe I'm being buttered up so that I purchase an upgrade!!

In early April, my friend Dario Lavia will be presenting a short video from me at a Science Fiction convention in Argentina called "Close Encounter". I'll be talking briefly about the importance of R.U.R. (If I can get over my jitters enough to record it ;-) ) Anyway, I consider it a true honor to be asked!

With about 80 to 85 % of the countries written up, I decided to consolidate what I've typed up so far concerning R.U.R. on radio. I wanted to do this because airwaves and languages don't always stop at borders. I needed everything in a nice handy document to cross-reference things properly. To my amazement, this took 24 type written pages!!!
