It's a little long to get into them name by name or anything, but, generally speaking, I'd say it's hard to go wrong. I will say that anytime you see an 'h' in a name, it's unvoiced and is more like an emphasis on the consonant that preceded it, or--if a vowel came before it--is like an elongation of the vowel, but with a little breath in the back of your throat. So, the aforementioned chaos god, Kimohr Raulinn is KEE-moar ROW-len (with the OW making an "ow" sound). I'll also say, that for almost all the names, the emphasis is on the first syllable (Kirash is KEE-rawsh, Porael is POE-rail, Thelsyn is THAIL-sin, etc), with the only exception I can think of off the top of my head being Diahsis (deh-AH-sez).

Ha, but that's just how I say them. I feel like readers should have room to say names how they like in a fantasy story. I'm pretty accepting of hearing them said in different ways.(less)

The first is allowing myself to get briefly distracted; I'll go away from my writing for an hour or two, hang out with friends, take a walk, draw a picture, whatever. More often than not, just a little break helps tear the block down. And if it doesn't, then I do the only thing I can do, which is to push on through. The ideas aren't flowing, I don't know what I'm doing, and it will be terrible--but no one's going to get onto my computer and sneak a peek at my first draft, anyway. It's more important to get the words out and fix them later than it is to try and get the words out perfect on the first go.(less)

Book giveaway!

Some of you might have already noticed, but I'm giving away signed copies of my new book, The Ballad of the Broken Soldier. It's a NaNoWriMo Accelerator contest winner!

What is Ballad about, you ask? Intrigue, adventure, paranoia, and a lot of jerks who don't get along with each other. I'd say it's a must read. ...I'm a little biased, but I'd still say it.

The book should be up on Amazon and oth Read more of this blog post »
