The Essentials To Writing a Novel
1. Coffee. Here, you may start with instant, hardy soul that you are...
2. A comfortable chair (and no, I don't mean the chair that is tilting haphazardly to one side and torn to shreds from your cat marking it as her own).
3. More coffee. You might as well buy shares in Starbucks starting now....
4. Hard candies. It helps to keep the gears grinding, or maybe its just because as an ex-smoker 15+ years clean, I still can't figure out how to not chew on something.
5. A quite place with no distractions (ha, laughing loudly at this one), which in the case of children and a house full of dogs that have strangely learned to howl like wolves to get my attention, the quiet is far and between.
6. In that case, a shiny iPod to drown out the howling zoo and the rest of the world as you hook up an IV of coffee, go through your second pack of Werther's Originals (yes, the old man kind), and pound the keyboard like Beethoven resurrected in a digital age.
